Old Building

Each door was opened as they made their way through the building which had a creepy at atmosphere.

There was little light that entered the building and there was a lot of dust that had built up from it being being left for so long.

The floorboards creaked with every step that had been taken and there were some areas that had become weak or had been left for a long time without being repaired or maintained.

The little moonlight that had passed through some small openings had only provided the minimum amount of light so it was difficult to see everything within a room.

Some furniture had been covered by sheets of cloth which had gathered a large amount of dust and there were some book shelves with some worn out books that looked like they would fall apart upon being touched.

There had clearly been signs left behind of someone living there in the past but it looked like it had been abandoned for a very long time.

That was how it had appeared on the surface and that was what the current surroundings had told everyone.

A book was gently lifted up by Grimwood who took an interest towards the old antiques that had been left behind. "Good find."

A small brush was taken out which had been used to carefully remove the layers of dirt and dust that had built up. "First thing is first.. we need to handle this mess."

The window was unlocked and pulled open but become stuck on something so it took several times before the window had opened.

It created more noise within the building and when the window had opened, the wind had blown inside and carried a lot of the lingering dust in the air along with it.

It did not completely air out the room so there were other rooms that had the windows opened too as the witches worked together.

It was a little easier to breathe and to move around in so they started to use their magic to help clean some smaller spaces or tables which they would use.

Grimwood was busy trying to preserve and tidy up the books that had been on the shelves with her tools and magic.

Most of the rooms had been checked and each of them had been in a similar condition.

Exploring the abandoned and spooky house had been uneventful for some but had been exciting for the others.

It took them some time to reach the basement where the state was just as bad or even worse.

An ordinary lamp was brought out with a candle inside and it was lit up as the witches and Coral had stepped deeper into the basement.

The light spread out and revealed more of what was down there which was the appearance of an old family tomb used to preserve the previous generations of the family that had passed away.

There were some family traditions that had led to some households preferring to be buried on their own land or to be kept in a tomb, dungeon or basement somewhere on the land.

It was unexpected to see such a sight upon reaching the basement but it was not what had left most of them feeling surprised.

A scream spread out inside of the room all of a sudden which came from Holly. "Kyaa!"

The light had spread out and landed near the middle of the room that was in the middle of several adult sized stone coffins.

Some smaller ones had been placed in some other parts of the room but in the middle had caught the attention of everyone.

A large pile of bones were piled up with the ones at the top being in a slightly better condition while the ones at the bottom had been broken down by the many long years they had been there.

The skulls and bones were varying in sizes as they were piled up like they had been collected together like trophies.

Maple had laid her eyes on then then let out a loud scream too. "Iyaa!"

Coral had become on guard against any threats and pushed the smaller witches behind her in a protective stance. "Stay behind me."

Grimwood looked down towards the pile of bones and approached slowly.

Her attention was drawn away from them and her gaze settled on the stone coffins. "They are not sealed completely."

Willow was a little more courageous and put up a small barrier around her before stepping closer. "So have these come from those or from another source?"

Her theory was that someone had removed the remains and placed them in the middle of the room and others started to form their own guesses.

Blush came forward and called out to Coral. "Help me with moving it."

There was a need to confirm what they had stepped into before they could decide to remain for any longer.

Blush may have had more of a clearer view of what was taking place around her but the other witches had lacked in perception or investigation type magic or abilities.

They each had their own specialties and spells that had been within their available tools to use but they could not pick up on things that Blush could.

It was better to let them explore and to add an air of mystery to the whole experience so that they could learn things for themselves and find ways to solve problems.

If Blush kept forewarning them and telling them how they should proceed then they would be too reliant on her and would not experience growth during times when they could do so.

The stone over the top of the stone coffin was pushed further to the side which had revealed the insides before a lamp was brought over it.

The insides were revealed to be empty which had allowed some assumptions to be proven correct but Grimwood was not convinced upon looking closer. "Do you not think that some parts inside are a little too clean?"

Willow looked inside and her eyes widened. "Look inside the others and check to see if they are the same?"

Blush nodded in agreement and Coral had followed her lead as more were revealed to be in a similar condition.

Grimwood looked at the clean spots and commented. "A lot of the cleaner places look like outlines of different sized human bodies but there was nothing inside. The ones that had been left open slightly were the ones with such traces being left behind…"
