Chapter 49: Plans for the Future

Oksana talked with Assar for some time before his food arrived. She had insisted on feeding him herself. Despite his protest, he had allowed her to do so. She smiled as he ate. She was so relieved that he had survived! She had hidden it from everyone else in the clan, but she had spent all her waking hours thinking about him and praying he would wake.

Now that he was awake though, another worry was eating at her thoughts. His contract was done. He had succeeded and was owed his reward. She had no problem paying, but she was more concerned about what he would do next. Would he leave? The mere thought made her heart ache.

When he had said he loved her, she had never felt so elated. Now she was terrified he would leave her.

He must have noticed something was wrong as he asked, “Something on your mind?”

She was startled, and blushed before looking away, “It’s…its nothing. We can discuss it later.”

“It’s fine, what is it?”
