Sketch and Bury

After Kat graciously brought some tea and food that was actually cooked, Cora ate a little bit but she couldn't fall asleep. She couldn't understand how something like that had happened.

"It was so sudden. It doesn't make any sense, mom," she frowned into the hot drink in her hands, watching the steam rise from the cup as she sat huddled on the bed with her mother next to her.

"Do you think it was like that for Zane when his heart arrested? Was he in that much pain? And he couldn't cry out? He couldn't even tell me?" Her bottom lip trembled as she considered the possibility out loud.

"Goddess," Penelope breathed. What an awful thing to imagine. She wanted to tell her daughter that it was doubtful, but then what alternative did she have to offer as explanation? She couldn't tell her about the lycan… not now. Not yet.
