My Life is in Your Hands

At the main house…

"Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!"

It was a shame to hear a man cry over a bruise. It was what Nurse Madeline thought at the time. Frowning, the nurse commented.

"Mr. Victor, you can drop the act now. According to the scans, your bruise does not threaten your life. If you expect the Young Miss to treat your wounds, you better be grateful she didn't volunteer. Otherwise, your bruises would be in their worst state."

Victor scratched his right temple, chuckled, and suddenly felt awkward. He could not deny he was only faking the pain when Nurse Madeline applied the ointment.

"Nurse Madeline, what do you mean by saying my bruises would worsen?" Curious, he asked. "Does Violet not know how to treat wounds?"

"What do you expect from a pampered princess?" Nurse Madeline snapped, "Just don't ask. Besides, I have never seen her doing so before."

Victor pondered; he mused inwardly. 'Do they really think she was that delicate?'

He did not see the entire sense of the nurse's reasoning, but he did not force the nurse to share anything, so he stopped querying. He zipped his mouth though he loves hearing a story about Violet.

"It's done." Nurse Madeline announced not long after that since there were only a few bruises to treat.

The robotic paramedic assisting Nurse Madeline gathered the medical tools and put them away inside its box, then left and headed back to the villa's storage hall.

"Here is an ice bag."

Victor placed the ice bag on his left arm, thanking the lady's excellent care. "Thank you, nurse Madeline!"

The nurse nodded. "I'll escort you to your quarters."

It was late. Nurse Madeline brought Victor to the staff's house. He was given a room in the bodyguard's quarter since he accepted the job as Violet's temporary bodyguard, but soon they'll realize that he is more likely her servant.

The following morning, Violet woke up early, even though she had slept late.

Last night, after taking a shower and getting dressed, she met with her cousin Leticia to discuss how they would accommodate all the guests stranded in the White House Garden, including those taking shelter.

After that, she contacted her cousin Gilbert Tan, the mayor of Remy Town, inquiring if everyone in the town had evacuated safely.

According to Gilbert, they were able to help evacuate fifty percent of the townspeople, while twenty-five percent went to the shelter on their own. Ten percent have a hiding place on their own; however, the ten percent who lived in the mountainous area were possibly caught up in the storm.

Violet told Gilbert that there were several families evacuated and taking shelter in the White House. She promised Gilbert to send her drones to scan the neighboring mountains once the storm calmed down. At the moment, the winds are so great for any aircraft to be in the sky.

In the kitchen, Violet found Victor behind the cooktop.

"Good morning…" Greeting the guy, she yawned halfway.

Violet sat down on the bar stool, almost dozing off her seat.

"Brewed coffee to wake you up!" In a cheerful mood, Victor placed a cup of black coffee in front of Violet—on his other hand, holding a ceramic milk pitcher. "You want me to add some milk?"

"Yes, please…" Violet nodded lazily, placing her chin on her folded hands, and watched Victor pour the milk with expertise.

"You sure know how to make some barista moves, huh? I don't think you work with one," she mumbled.

"It's just self-taught," Victor retorted with proudness in his voice. When Violet lifted her head to look at him, she was bestowed with his sweetest smile.

"Lemme, guess…" Violet muttered between sipping on her latte. "It's just out of boredom, you self-taught."

"You guess it right! So what do you think? Is it possible for me to be at your service with no certificate?"

"Shut up." She snapped. "I hired you to be my bodyguard, not as my butler."

Victor chuckled. He then boosted, "But I can work all around. Don't you dare look down on me!"

"Right…" Violet giggled. "You are too bored with your life, and now you are willing to be bothered by me."

"I think it's the other way around. I'm actually the one who is bothering you, right?"

"Hah! Well, you saved my ass last night, and I saved yours. So, that's counted as even now." Violet reminded him.

"Speaking of that, I talked to your bodyguards. I asked how often you are attacked."

The smile on Violet's lips disappeared when Victor changed the subject. She put down her cup and met Victor's eyes like she was measuring their depths.

After a while of weighing things, Violet took a long breath and said, "As you are now willing to be my bodyguard, I will tell you the truth. There is a huge deposit of Jadeite in the mountainous area of Remy Town."

"Holy Shot!" Victor was astounded by the piece of news he had learned. "This small town actually this wealthy?"

"Well, technically, yes. It will really help the community, but I don't want to imagine the effect on the ecosystem. After those giant companies discovered this, they proposed several projects in the town because of what they could mine. Thus, they are trying hard to win over the local government."

"Hmm… the mayor is your cousin, and the provincial governor is your uncle." Victor pointed out with significant meaning in his words.

"That's correct, and you may have ideas now who backs them up."

Victor is indeed obvious about that. Sometimes, being wealthy is immaculate as long as it is used for the right cause.

"It's you, isn't it?"

Violet smiled but admitted nothing and let him assume.

"Wow. You've spent hundreds of billions of dollars in this small town and take nothing in return. Others would not spend that much but do the opposite instead. They would mindlessly destroy a land." Now he admired Violet even more.

"Well…. I am a conservationist, and my priority is to stop anyone who is a threat to nature." Violet reasoned out.

But her, being in the way of those greedy companies, would surely earn enemies, thought Victor.

"Those people would not mind spending money to assassinate you because they would earn an unimaginable fortune if no one blocked their way."

"You are correct. Now that those companies figured out I was the major backer of the environmental activists, they would keep assaulting me."

Violet may not appear personally most of the time that they appeal to the court to prevent those companies in their greedy plans, but she has seen a few times at those rallies. It must be how they realized who their true enemy was.

"Then, my life is in your hands now." Violet carried on, pursing her lips into a grin. Victor chuckled when she said it casually like she would not die any minute.

"It would be my honor." Victor straightened his back and slowly bent down, bowing like a knight.
