Chapter 20 - Mariano (2)

I've had such a long fucking day. All I want is to lie down and sleep. But as I uncuff my sleeves and walk deeper into the house, I hear laughter coming from the living room.

I check my watch. It's almost midnight. It's usually quiet at this hour and none of the guards are allowed inside. So I wonder who the hell is in here.

Reaching the threshold of the living room, I spot Riri, Val, and Jax lying on the carpet, the ladies on either side of him. The only lights on are the lamps on each side of the couch. There are snacks and beer bottles everywhere, and the big screen on the wall is playing Mean Girls. Don't ask me how I know what movie it is; that's not important.

What's strange is that none of them are watching the movie and yet they're snickering like something is so funny while staring at the ceiling.

Jax lazily turns his head to me and a huge grin ghosts his lips. "My man… Your wife is high as a kite."
