(Meghan)
"No but tell me how exactly the Erratics got in here." Meghan said to Ray, "Were they hiding in here? Or did they break through the…" she turned around and saw that the front entrance was wide open. "Where's the gate? Why isn't the gate closed? I remember—"
"I opened it." Ray confessed. "I went out to the car to get the walkie-talkie and forgot to close it when I came back in."
"You what?" Meghan asked turning back to him. "You just left it open? Especially when it's almost night time? What were you thinking?"
She saw the exact moment Ray's apologetic face changed into one of defiance. He narrowed his eyes at her and straightened his shoulder.
"Like I said, I slipped up." Ray said in an unusually low voice. "I didn't let them in on purpose. I had something on my mind and I forgot about closing the gate. I apologize. Is that enough or do you want me to get down on my knees and beg for your forgiveness?"
