“I think we’re like the only family we know that still does that,” Janey said.
“Your Da and I were both raised saying grace,” Howard explained. “We thought it was important that you all grew up with it too.”
“Yeah, but wasn’t it weird? I mean being a gay couple and all?” James asked.
“No,” Jason explained. “Your dad and I decided that we were not going to give up on God just because there were a lot of people who thought that God had given up on us.”
“And we are Episcopalian,” Howard added. “We went to a church that was accepting of our family.”
“Okay, and here’s another question,” Janey began. “Why do we call you Dad, and you ‘Da’?”
“Although the last name Chidworth comes from our English side, we have a lot of Irish on my side of the family, and on that side of the family we’ve always called our fathers Da,” Jason explained with a smile.
“You realize you two ask us these questions a lot?” Howard asked with a smile.
