Village Head Gu knew what Yu Dong meant by saying such things. She also understood that what Yu Dong was saying was indeed correct, after all, women couldn't protect mers all the time. 

If a mer was to learn how to protect himself then it would be much better for his safety. Women also would not have to worry about their mers leaving the house alone. 

However, the elders of their village were unwilling to understand this. They strictly refused to let a school get built in the village, no matter what.

One of them even claimed that she would die on the very land where the school was going to be constructed. 

"Will it be alright?" Village Head Gu asked with a frown settling on her face. "The elders made quite a lot of noise the last time they even threatened to kill themselves." 

"Then let them die," Last time Yu Dong was a tad bit kinder to those idiots and they thought that they could do anything that they wanted.
