Chapter 007

Alex walked into the iconic red building that was familiar to him, both in his previous life and this one. A soft jingle sounded out as he pushed open the door.

A young woman with pink hair who stood behind the counter looked up at Alex who was just entering. The round pink Pokemon standing next to her also looked over.

"Hello, Alex! And how are you today? Your nose seems to have recovered nicely and Roger told me that your fever did not reoccur" said the pink-haired woman.

"Hello, Nurse Joy! I am fine, thank you. I just came by today to thank you and Chansey for treating me before" said Alex. He then looked over at Chansey and said " Also, sorry for freaking out when I saw you. I had an unrelated nightmare and freaked out randomly. So yeah…...Sorry about that"

"Si Chan" said Chansey waving its little hand, which he figured meant, "Don't worry about it"

"Your welcome Alex" said Nurse Joy. She looked around at the empty lobby and figuring she wouldn't be having any visitors for a while decided to chat with Alex. "So, I heard Roger tell me that you are one of the four members of Cherry Grove that will be attempting the PIT. I hope you are preparing well"

"Of course Nurse Joy, " said Alex, while looking at Chansey to see its stats. "I and Joseph are studying hard every night for the PIT"

"Chansey has green potential and is at level 31, but its training is quite low compared to Officer Jenny's Growlithe. This proves that potential and level are unrelated to training. To find out if training percentage is related to evolution I should ask Nurse Joy about her Chansey's evolution" pondered Alex.

"I hope you don't become too stressed because of the PIT. You always have next year if you don't do as expected. But if you hurt yourself due to stress then it will be a lifelong problem for you" advised Nurse Joy. "I suspect the serious fever you previously had is due to excessive stress. You recovered well this time but you won't always be lucky"

"No, I wasn't lucky, I died back then, and my soul from another life seems to have possessed me," thought Alex. He then looked up at Nurse Joy and asked her, "Can you tell me about your PIT?"

In this world, Nurse Joys were not identical looking. They weren't sisters even, at least not by blood. The Joy clan was an old and powerful clan matriarchal clan that predates the establishment of the Pokemon Alliance. They were the earlier pioneers in the medical field and even in the modern age, their healthcare knowledge and R&D in healthcare-related matters were top-notch.

In the earliest stages of the clan's development, the matriarch, thinking female doctors provided much better healthcare service than male doctors, vigorously cultivated female doctors. She standardised their attire, hair colour, and hairstyles and had them stationed in various parts of the regions they had an influence over. These female doctors in standard uniforms and hairstyles, were taught to be polite, and understanding, and comforting. They were dubbed 'Nurse Joy' by the people back then and the name stuck ever since.

During the establishment of the Pokemon Alliance, The Joy clan was one of the pillars and took over the responsibility of healthcare in all regions. They trained and sponsored young women from local communities to study in their 'Nurse Joy Academy' and incorporated them as peripheral members of their clan. Since the establishment of the yearly PIT 14 years ago, scholarships were offered to aspiring young women to study in their Nurse Joy Academy. After these young women graduated, they would be assigned to remote areas where a new Pokemon Center would be opened or an area where the current Nurse Joy had the qualifications for a promotion to a bigger city and become the local Nurse Joy.

The Joy clan had a near-monopoly on high-end medical technology, rare healing pokemon like Chansey and Audino, and extreme medical research capabilities. Due to this, they had a high standing and enormous influence in the Pokemon Alliance.

From a conversation he overheard from Roger and this Nurse Joy, he knew that this Nurse Joy is a recent graduate transferred over after the previous one applied to transfer to a bigger city last year.

"Ah! Of course," said Nurse Joy. "I took the PIT 9 years ago. I only managed to clear the second round. But it was enough to get a full scholarship from the Nurse Joy academy. I graduated after 6 years of study and was assigned as the assistant to the Viridian City Pokemon Center. Just last year I was transferred here" said Nurse Joy in a slight daze.
