A Servant's outlook

The morning sun bares down the hallway as a pair of maids talk of the latest news. "Hey Mary, have you heard? there have been rumours that Duke Vincent is actually being poisoned." Mary looks at her friend as she sighs, weary of her endless gossips. Mary raises her hand and pulled at her ear as she angrily whispers to her, "Didn't I tell you not to talk about stuff like this," Mary looks around as she stops walking "What if Sir Viller hears you, you're just giving him a reason to punish you."

Her friend rubs her sore ears as she replies back, "Jeez fine, you pulled too hard this time." She tears up a bit, Mary rolls her eyes as she replies with amusement "Whatever you say, Madelaine," She wipes Madelaine's tears, "I'm sure you are sooo hurt." Madelaine pouts before she replies back, "It did hurt a bit." Mary smiles with mirth, "Fine, I'm sorry."

Madelaine then smiles as she hugs Mary, "Yay, besties." Madelaine then excitedly continues, "How about the ball, are you excited for the ball tomorrow?" Mary looks at her as she raises an eyebrow "Why? It isn't like we're part of the attendees." Madelaine locked in her stupor, dreamily replies, "But isn't it so beautiful? The decorated ceilings and tableware made of fine cloth." She then grabs Mary by the shoulders, "And the men, the handsome men that'll be attending,"

Madelaine holds Mary still as she pushes up her chest, she points to herself, "I don't know about you but I'm more than proud of my charms." Mary lightly shoves her away as she dejectedly replied, "Do you really think noble blood demons will ever consort themselves to humans?" Those words take the wind out of her sail as she dejectedly curls, playing with her fingers, "It doesn't hurt to try right? It's not like we had any choice."

Mary only looks down as she angrily whispers, "That's just how this world works. They're on top while we're here living on our knees." Madelaine looks down, aware of her friend's history with demons and nobles. She then decided to cheer her up with a hug while she shouts "Super Hug!". Mary only looks at her before giggling, a few seconds pass and they both then ended up with a fit of giggles.

They giggle to themselves before a suddenly step echoes through the hallway, silencing them both. They stiffen and immediately fix their dresses. They look to the source of the sound to see a young man. A man whose hair is black as midnight and eyes dark enough to suck you in. They stiffen as he glances at them, afraid of earning the man's ire. They notice the small smile adorning his face, one which immediately blinds the duo, from the godlike beauty his smile has created. Their blood rushes to their faces as they hurriedly run away from the man.

Unbeknownst to them, Michael was filled with sinister thoughts. Thinking of the gold he was bound to own, once he robbed Dunsten of all he was due. He continues to walk in a dreamy stupor as he counts the gold coins that can fit in his dimensional space.

Madelaine squeals as she shakes Mary by the shoulder, she spoke dreamily "Mr Michael was so handsome." Mary takes the hand off her shoulder before she coughs, the redness receding from her cheeks as she spoke hurriedly "That was obvious, they say Royal bloodlines always have the best appearances." Madelaine only nods as she dreamily looks at his back, Mary pinches her cheek as she spoke, "Don't even think about it, the man's a slave to house Dunsten."

Madelaine's stupor ends as she pouts to her friend who lets go of her sore cheeks, in a fit of childish anger she whispers. "Why? Cant I at least talk to him, he looks so lonely." Mary shakes her head as mischievously replied, "You? We both know you'll end putty to that handsome face." Madelaine only looks away, a bit embarrassed of her friend's remarks, "You don't know that, maybe we can both be happy and have a beautiful life together." Mary only smirks as she replied, "Hardly."

Mary then huffs as she starts walking once more as Madelaine closely follows. A few minutes pass then Madelaine mischievously spoke once more, "Sooo, Mr Michael was pretty young wasn't he?" Mary facepalm as she glances at her, "You really can't shut up for a few seconds can you?" Mary only looks to Madelaine's pouting expression as she continued, "But yes, I guess he was pretty young," Mary thinks with her hand on her chin, "Maybe like a few years younger than us."

Madelaine started looking sullen, "I even heard he was like seven years old when Duke Vincent bought him." Mary nods, "Yes and he bought him for ten thousand gold coins." Madelaine frowns, "Yeah, I heard that Duke Vincent got most of his current fortune, from buying and repurposing human artifacts. They say it was mostly from Mr Michael's bloodline skill."

Madelaine scowls as she spoke her mind, "That is so unfair, I heard Mr Michael doesn't even get a fraction of that." Mary only sighs as she pinches her cheek she then whisper hurriedly, "How many times do I have to tell you not to criticize the noble you're working for?" Mary crosses her arm as she frowns "And besides that's just the world we live in, we can't change it, we can only live in it."

Madelaine sighs deeply, "I know, I know. It just feels so unfair. Right?" Mary nods as they walk, now in a sombre mood. Madelaine then starts stretching before she spoke to Mary, "Oh well, we better get started on our work. Bestie." Mary laughs, "Yeah, we can't eat if we don't work." The two of them then started walking faster, the day merely starting for a new day of work. Unknowing of the world's design and the coming change to their lives.

All starting with the day where house Dunsten reaches its road to destruction.
