CHAPTER 34

CHAPTER 34

Before Catherine could register what Bowen had said, the door opened, and Loïc appeared at the threshold. He didn’t say anything, just looked at her down his pointed nose disdainfully. Their heavy stares locked in a silent battle, in a timeless world. His eyes seemed hateful as ever, revealing murderous thoughts.

“Judicaël will suspect you,” she said.

Loïc gave a short smug laugh but didn’t move.

Catherine pushed herself to her feet. As she did, she noticed her lover’s ghostly limbs, which had been wrapped around her so recently, had vanished. Quickly scanning the room, she saw that Bowen’s spirit was nowhere to be found. Her heart fell, but her gaze climbed up and set itself on the imposing fae. If that had been her last moment with her husband, she wasn’t going to forget the interruption that had ended it.

“Get out of here.” Any leftover fear hiding in the dark crevices of her broken heart had been driven away. “I mean it. Get out!”
