Leah drifted off while I sat there in the dark, looking for a way past the barrier of the locket's prison. There had to be a way. White sorcery was the key, I was sure of it. There wasn't a trace of that power inside the locket or anywhere in the magic binding me to this place. But every time I sent out a feeler into the black, aiming for the edges of the shielding, the shadows swallowed it with an eagerness that made me shudder and retreat.
I refused to give up, but had to finally admit to myself as I hugged my knees to my chest things were looking pretty bleak.
