Chapter 100: Topaz Wands

Topaz wands contain one or more topazes: a large one for the wand's end cap, a small one at the wand's tip, or small ones along the wand's length.

Topaz

Topaz is a fluorosilicate of aluminum with the chemical formula Al2SiO4(F,OH)2. Pure topaz is clear and referred to as White topaz. Blue topaz contains traces of iron and titanium. Natural blue topaz preferred by wand makers is very rare and expensive. Transfiguration spells can turn white topaz blue, but the result is not as powerful as natural blue topaz when it comes to focusing water spells.

Topaz is a very hard gemstone, but like a diamond, it can be split with a single blow.

Topaz is mined in Afghanistan, Australia, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Russia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, and the United States. Most topaz mined is white (clear) topaz. Natural blue topaz primarily comes from the Ural Mountains of Russia.
