webnovel

Around 1 year old.

I'm finally eating only solid food. The change in meal was done progressively but now i'm finally eating true solid food. Just bread and some potage. I'm thinking that this rustic live is not so bad from what i've seen so far.

As for the other changes, i can now understand the spoken language and i'm able to speak a bit. There are some words that i pronounce with a lisp as i'm still a baby. I am a redhead like my dad by the way.

I have a deeper understanding of this world now, especially after lurking… listening to the adults conversations. The country we live in use a cast system not unlike what existed in France during Medieval time. A king rule, the nobles come second and then there is the rest. Well, it's more complicated than that. The king and royal family rule the country, the first generation appointed a bunch of nobles with titles, land and responsibilities. Sometime, new nobles are appointed to replace those that fell from grace or to reward merits. The Nobles are differentiated by a bunch of rules. First is how old their lineage come from, second the size of the land there family was granted, third their political alignment. Those that get to be nobles as reward can't have their children inherit the title and they can't be granted lands, so they are nobility in name only. Which mean that commoners will never be able to rise up the ranks.

The political alignments are divided by many things, first is allegiance to higher ranked nobles where a family is obligated to follow in the higher ranked one because of the pledge they or their ancestors made. Second, they are divided by which of the princes or princesses they are wishing to see as next king or queen. And then they are also opposing each others based on grudges they or their ancestors have.

As for the land, it belong to the royal family and they grant it to higher class nobles who the separate it in smaller subdomain for the lower ranked nobles affiliated with them. It is quite normal to have a noble of a branch family being appointed mayor of a small village based on their blood ties. It's actually the case in our own village, the mayor has the lowest rank as a noble, his title is honorary knight which is for the descendant of a branch family of lower nobility or can be granted as reward to a commoner. He is a bit older than my parent and doesn't look like a knight at all. He is not muscular, doesn't have armor and weapons and he look more like a random villager if anything. He is married to Stacy, the middlewife who is also a teacher in the village.

The oldest lineage of nobles are the royal family and the first families granted higher titles of nobilities with big lands. The one we live in belong to the Boreas Greyrat, thought we are at the border of the territory. If you travel a bit west you will enter the land of the Notos Greyrat.

Seems like my father came from there before he met mom and the weird uncle is still living there. Speaking about it, he is my actual uncle, the little brother of my father and work at a guard patrolling with the caravan that are coming and going between the two territories.

And with that i pretty much know in what world i am.

Mushoku Tensei.

Now the question is am i in the loop with Rudeus Greyrat or not. Will my presence attract the peeper and scheming Hitogami. Well, i don't even know in which year i am but if there is the teleport calamity that has already happened i would know because the folks wouldn't be so merry. I could also be born long before him or long after him. Or in a loop where he doesn't exist. Too much stress. Let's not think of it and just go with the flow. Whatever happen is meant to happen anyway.

I've explained how the ruling cast was, but they are the minority. The rest are comprised of commoners, serfs and slaves. The slaves are commodities that can be sold. Serfs are servant of a particular noble or territory, they don't have right but they are not quite slaves because in exchange for their services they get protection. It's become a rare practice now. Commoners form the majority of the population and are free folks.

There are many races in this world but in the territory i live in, most people are humans and beastfolks are actually really rare. The only one i have seen is the bar keeper. I know about a fair bit thanks to what i remember of the web novel but people are a lot more racist in this world than i would have thought. The races that get the more hate belong to the demon races, they are a collection of different tribes and races and collectively are called demons. Especially the Supard. Seeing my parents threatening that a Supard would come eat Klein if he didn't go to sleep was hilarious. There is also some discrimination toward the beastfolks but it's related to religious belief as they tend to have frictions with believer of Millis. I haven't heard of the mermen or winged race. The only race everyone admire is the dragon tribe thanks to Perugius. Another race that is looked down on is the fighting race, they are human-like but they acts like barbarians from what people are saying.

The most populous race is human, they are the majority on 3 continents after all.

I discovered something during last month, Grandpa Henry is actually hunting dangerous magic beast. He is in his late fifties and doing something so dangerous ! He told me a few stories of what he did when he was young, like he was an adventurer and visited other countries before settling down after he had a child. His wife died from disease almost 20 years ago and he had brought up my mom alone. He sounds very amazing compared to me in my previous life.

Living in this world is dangerous, i should find a way to try my hand at magic fast and if possible swordsmanship too. Those are the best skills i could learn to survive and they are not too rare from what i learned. Unfortunately i live in a remote village and there is no dojo or magic teacher around especially not for a baby. We don't even have a book. The one that have books are the mayor family, accurately speaking it would be his wife picture books to teach children how to read.
