"To do or not to do, that is the question," Jaybird translated Shakespeare's words while the playwright gesticulated wildly with his hands. 

"Oh, do shut up, William," complained the woman in the dark blue frilly gown standing to his right. "No one needs to hear another one of your soliloquies."

"Thank the Lord of Death," Jaybird sighed. "The Gift of Tongues can be really straining to use…" 

"I can imagine…" the woman laughed a sweet laugh behind the metallic fan she'd used to cover her mouth momentarily. "Honestly, we've tried to get him to learn to speak the colloquial tongue, but he simply refuses to forget the romance language of his native England…"

She had long raven hair and a pale, pointed face with high cheekbones and a demure smile. Her eyes were a cold steel blue, and they gazed back at the Luminaries as if inspecting their faces one by one.
