Part II, Chapter II - Lost And Found But Still Lost

We ran all the way and took us one hour and forty minutes to get to our destination. My companion was too energetic.

"Greetings, Sophia!" Jane kicked the door open.

"I think your coffee had too much caffeine" I said "And we had the same coffee"

"No, it was fine. Where's Sophia? There!" She ran to Sophia like a predator against its prey.

"What the fuck?" cursed Sophia

"I need to catch my breath" I said painting. Jane did not seem to need to catch her breath.

"I have solved your case" she said "And I did it before Defective Holmes could"

"Are you sure about that?" I asked, panting "You claimed first but that doesn't mean you thought about it first"

"We'll find out. You first!"

"Me?"

"Yes! You explain first, I wanna hear your nonsense"

"Okay" said I, panting "After drying your pair of orange socks you folded only one, so great that it felt like you were holding two when you placed it in your drawer. You've already lost the other one when you were washing it which means it went through the small slot between the washing machine's round thing"

"Drum" Jane corrected

"Drum" I repeated "Between the drum and the thing that holds the drum. When you pulled out the sock from the drawer you were in a hurry and ready to put your shoes on at the dinner table not realizing you were holding only one of the pair. Upon seeing it, you were shocked enough to throw it upon the floor. You discontinued whatever you were in a hurry for for finding the other sock. Your turn, Jane"

"Okay" Said my companion "You examined so many things, but forgot to take a closer look at the sock. When I examined the sock, I noticed a small grain of cereal. Indeed she ate cereal, however, it left me loose-ends until you asked her about the cereal she ate and the missing spoon. You noticed the clean bowl but not the small trace of a spoon's neck in the blender that looked like it was part of the broken rotor blade. She wasn't in a hurry and the cereal she ate was actually yesterday morning. She only bothered to wash the bowl this morning and, instead of eating cereal, she decided to make orange juice but her mind was still processing shit because she just woke up, although her socks are important to her so she checked if there were anything wrong in her sock drawer and noticed the orange pair was slightly off so she adjusted both socks, but didn't feel she was still holding when she got out. So, when she got up she got her spoon and glass ready. Upon putting the orange inside the blender, including the peel, she didn't feel the other sock drop down with the orange and didn't notice the sock because the colors blended well together, the same amount of orange, and blended, she still didn't feel the other sock so, she dropped it without knowing so. So, after blending her juice, she put it in her glass and drank it, of course its taste was off but she enjoyed it anyway and drank the rest. Wanting more, she accidentally dropped the spoon while the rotor blade was still active and threw the now-liquid metal on the sink and cleaned her blender. Which is why you didn't smell anything metal on it"

"You're saying I drank the other sock? Well, the orange did taste a bit off" said Sophia.

"So you decided to continue drinking it?" said I "It could've been poison, y'know. Well, only one way to prove if one of us was correct. Take me to your washing machine"

"You perceived I own a washing machine without seeing it?"

"You have clothes and you live in a house like this, of course you have a washing machine"

She took me to her washing machine and I needed a way to disassemble without destroying it. So, we called a mechanic and found out that there was, in fact, no sock.

"You called me here for a sock?" said the mechanic

"Indeed" said I "Now, reassemble the washing machine, the case is solved"

"Moron"

We then walked to the blender and saw the neck of a spoon on the broken rotor blade.

"Well" said Sophia "There's the broken spoon neck but that doesn't prove I blended and drank the sock"

"Tell the mechanic to disassemble this one" said my companion. Upon disassembling it, we discovered a small orange thread under the broken rotor blade.

"Well, shit" Sophia exclaimed "I drank the sock!"

My companion got it right, I was upset that I deduced wrong but, on the bright side I got a friend. A friend who knows how to scare people.

The next morning, I got a text from Jane at two in the morning.

"Yeah, I received a letter that's adressed to me but has your name on it" it said "Come immediately. Otherwise, I will call you"

My phone then vibrated and rang. I answered it. She told me her adress and urged me to come immediately. The streets were cold. When I reached her house she read to me the letter before I could say anything

"William Habitat" She began "I have been following you since your sister died and I have to say I am disappointed to witness you deduce wrongly, but also flattered to see you made a new friend. Let us improve your deduction skills, shall we? - Cupcake"

"You had a sister?" my new friend asked

"There are things I don't talk about" I claimed
