Whoever Marries My Daughter Will Be The Luckiest Man On Earth

Shoving the kitchen knife back in Shen Zhongming's hand, Shen Chen walked back into the house and slammed the door shut behind her.

The neighbors were startled for a second before raising their thumbs up at Shen Zhongming.

"Hey, Shen, you've got an awesome daughter there!"

"Absolutely. She even knows how to slaughter a chicken!"

"Youngsters nowadays don't know how to fend for themselves. The daughter-in-law of Liu is nothing compared to Shen Chen; Liu's daughter-in-law doesn't even help to wash the veggies. Slaughtering a chicken? Hell no. Not in a million years!"

As the neighbors were all praise of Shen Chen, Shen Zhongming was on cloud nine, his chin skyward. "Whoever marries my daughter will be the luckiest man on earth!"

His neighbors just smiled as they dispersed to wherever they came from.

Shen Zhongming took the chicken, now as dead as a doornail, and went back into the house. He started to prepare hot water to remove the feather. Things went just as messy as before. Perhaps it was his first time cooking such a complicated dish. Shen Zhongming turned the kitchen into a war zone.

Three hours later and that was the last straw; Shen Chen threw a wobbly.

"Shen Zhongming, are you done yet?"

The clunking and clicking in the kitchen suddenly stopped. Shen Zhongming poked his head round the door. "What's going on, sweetie?"

What was going on? Shen Chen snuggled on the sofa, feeling annoyed. She would like to know what was going on, too. Shen Chen just flipped through the desk calendar absentmindedly, trying to avoid answering his silly question.

Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Shen Zhongming took off the apron and headed to his room. After a while, he came back out with a paper box containing the money that he had won. As he counted the money, he glanced at Shen Chen.

"Hey, sweetie, what do you say if we eat out?"

Shen Chen rolled her eyes at him. "What happens to the chicken soup?"

Shen Zhongming looked defeated with his brows knitted together. "You know, sweetie, your dad just isn't cut out for kitchen tasks! What if we go out to have something good?"

"Get out of my sight!" Shen Chen suddenly flew off the handle.

"Why have you been so grumpy the entire day?" Shen Zhongming frowned.

How could I not be a bear with a sore head when I have such a dumb dad? She said to herself, feeling restless and anxious. After taking a good glance at Shen Zhongming, she decided not to talk to him.

Shen Zhongming was not going to eat out without his daughter. He walked to the refrigerator instead, took out a bottle of beer, sat down at one side and swigged back.

A few moments later, Shen Chen looked up at him. She gave a frown while she threw the desk calendar on the sofa. She then walked over, took a bottle of beer from the refrigerator, and opened the lid with her teeth.

It was handsome and frivolous. The one-fell-swoop motion was shockingly beautiful.

She took a sip and frowned. "Ick, this beer tastes like shit!"

"Sweetie, in case you don't know, this beer costs eight dollars a bottle. It's good stuff," Shen Zhongming said.

She rolled her eyes. "Good stuff doesn't always mean it tastes good."

Only then Shen Zhongming understood what she meant. With a smile, he said, "You're right. What my sweetie loves is hard liquor. No way a beer that tastes like water will be as good."

Shen Chen was a tough girl since she was small. Anything that girls liked, she didn't. And alcohol to her was an irresistible temptation. Now, she could swig ten bottles of erguotou without blinking an eye. Even Shen Zhongming dared not claim to out-drink his daughter because most of the time, he was the first person to get hammered at the drinking table.
