A little training.

We set up camp around an flat area. Most of the terrain around here was rugged and rocky there was still decent amounts of trees and tall grasses though. We set up the tent and some other things which Luna let me like a small table and chairs. Mostly for food breaks. We would probably camp here for about a week or so to get used to our Pokémon partners.

Everybody had different training styles. Mine was just trying to increase my squirtles stamina and accuracy. Hinata I think was trying to teach her bulbasaur to use soft combat style with its vines. Rias was going for pure destruction with her charmander and no one ever knows what Luna is doing.

We had to put out quite a few fires from Rias's charmander. So she always had to have me or Hinata with her since we both knew water style. It was also good practice for Squirtle to use his bubbles and put out fires.

The regular training was me using tennis balls and throwing them at the little guy so he could learn to kind of dodge or use his shell to take damage. They didn't hurt him much but they stung. The tennis balls were also used for target practice. I'd toss them in the air and he would try to hit them with bubbles. Squirtles aren't very fast so dodging training wasn't very nice to it but it did quickly learn how to block with its shell.

Luna was having a blast. There were tons of bird Pokémon around so her pikachu could just shock them a couple of times and be done with it. She ended up catching herself a pidgey.

Rias didn't catch anything but was just training her charmander. She wanted a really strong Pokémon. All Pokémon love to fight so it comes naturally to them. A couple of battles with rattata and pidgey where she used ember or scratch were quite exciting to her.

Hinata was more peaceful. She battled a couple of times but didn't see anything she liked. Her bulbasaur used a lot of its vines and would just slap or slam things with them until they gave up.

Our first battle was with a spearow. It was a persistent little bastard and like with most first fights Squirtle almost forgot everything it knew about dodging and just stood there. This would be a painful experience as it took quite a few pecks and scratches. It ended up losing the battle because it panicked. He was pretty sad about it.

"Everyone loses at some point it's sad that's true but you just keep going until you win." I say picking up the little turtle and starting to treat his scratches with potions. "Even I lost in a way one time let me tell you about my adventure with a mountain troll and how I got overconfident and distracted in a battle."

This seemed to lighten up the little turtles mood considerably.

After it's wounds were taken care of and it rested for a little bit we looked for another battle. We found one in the form of a rattata. This battle went much easier. He remembered to use his shell to block tackles. He also listened a little more and made sure to hit it with a bubble attack to the head and stunned it for a second before following up with a tackle. He took a few small hits but with some determination he won the battle and knocked out his little rat opponent.

"See all you needed was to be calm. You did a good job now let's head back for some lunch." I tell the happy turtle and pick him up to head back to camp.

For the next couple of days he would win some and he would lose some. He was still learning. There was only one time I had to intervene and that was when a Mankey tried to smash him with a rock. I punted that little monkey shit far into the distance. Using weapons is foul play.

Other than that if he lost a fair battle i let it happen so he could learn. Then I would offer advice and help him train. His worst habit was not dodging. He did listen to my commands now though.

On one lucky day at the end of the week we finally ran into the Pokémon I was looking for in the area. It was a small pinkish colored rhino. A nidoran.

"Alright buddy this is going to be a tough one. You see those little spiky bits on it head and back?" I as the little turtle who nods. "Those are poisonous so you have to make sure they hit your shell or don't hit you at all do I make myself clear?" Another nod and he runs off to the battle.

"Use bubble to surprise it then hit it from the side." I tell him and he quickly sprays a pretty compact jet of bubbles at the nidorans head while it's running at it. This does as intended and he quickly smashes into to side of the little rhino knocking it over. "Don't let it get up tackle it again!" I shout. *wham!* another tackle and cry of pain from the small Pokémon. "Spray it's face with bubbles!" Instead of bubbles coming out it sprays a small jet of water. "About time you learned water fun this fight just became much easier keep spraying it."

There's another blast of water and the little rhino is kept off balance. "Hit him with another tackle." Squirtle rushes at him and slams into its belly this time.

I pull out a pokeball from my pouch at toss it at the nidoran. There's a flash of light and it's sucked inside before the ball drops onto the ground. *shake rattle.* *shake rattle.* *shake rattle.* *Ding.* the ball finally stops shaking as the little button on the front signifies a successful capture.
