When I first met Lily I was intrigued by her. Even though its spelled differently, our names sound the same. We met in an after school theater program. I was 12 and she was 11. At first we had to be friends, the play we were in together had us in a scene. We practiced alot outside of rehearsal and soon knew each other well.
It had come to my attention that she had a girlfriend. Her name was Theodora, and from what Lily told me, she was perfect. Theo had dark skin and golden eyes, she had long braided hair. She wore circular red glasses. In every aspect she was described to me, she seemed perfect. She was elegant, beautiful, romantic, everything I was not. Hearing about this girlfriend of Lily's gave me a two things.
1. I wanted to clarify whether or not i had a crush on Lily, and it was easy to discern that I did not. And 2. I was very happy that Lily had such an amazing person looking out for her.
Lily and I just kept on being friends. But as the end of theater rehearsal got closer, so did the final show. On the first show night, Lily proposed and idea to me. She said it was a focusing trick, and since we are on stage together a-lot, it made since to focus together. So we sat down facing each other, and placed our hands together. We closed our eyes and stayed like this for many minutes. You must understand, Lily and I were good friends, we were very touchy in that friendly way, so this didn't seem odd at all. We did this for the next four nights, and then, the show was over.
We had no reason to see one another anymore. She drifted out of my life and out of my mind.
Until one day she called me, she said she had written a book, and wanted me to read it. She couldn't figure out how to text me a whole book, so she decided to read it out loud to me. We both didn't have much else to do, so I agreed.
We spent hours every night with her reading to me. Then I would tell her what I thought about it. But soon those conversations moved to other things and we would talk late into every night. It was nice, for me to have a good friend.
Months passed, and it was time for the next theater show. We were inseparable, during this show we became so close, we went places together, and I started to eat lunch with her table at school. That is how I met my best friends, through Lily.
Then came summer. We talked every night, reading her book. When we finally finished it, we still just talked. About anything and everything, secrets, worries, passions, fears, dreams for the future. But the summer always ends bitter sweetly and now I'm in seventh grade. This year, was a little different.
