Ah, gotcha. I mistook you for a reasonable person based on your tone in the initial review, despite the 2 stars. I can respect the statement of “I find this core plot element to be abhorrent so I wish it wasn’t in there.” Yeah. Lots of people find mind control squicky at best. Trust me, I know. I would absolutely not like anyone with powers like those my MC displays to exist in real life, including me. The follow up, however, I’m a lot less sympathetic to. Allow me to explain why point by point. 1. “If you’re just writing it for your own fun, why share it with everyone? Nobody wants to read that.” False. *You* don’t want to read *this specific example* of that. People write horny, morally questionable bullshit all the time and some of the time the result is a bestselling novel, especially if they can market it to horny middle aged women. Abusive stalkers and kidnappers seriously get the engine running for some ladies, apparently. Quite a few people have really rather liked this story, sometimes specifically because they enjoyed the mind control elements, and I’m proud to have entertained them. The assumption that you can speak for all readers comes up multiple times in your comment, and it has zero impact on me precisely because I know that you’re talking out your ass. 2. “Forcing characters to love the MC is bad writing.” I’ll grant you the rest of the sentence, that it’s a creepy turn off to some, even many, people. Erich is a terrible person and at times even he is completely aware of that fact. However, bad writing is not the same as “a thing I personally don’t like.” Having a controversial element makes something niche, which is different from being simply bad. The fact that you didn’t like my story has fuck all to do with my skill level. I don’t think there is a level of skill and creativity I could have displayed while exploring the effects of mind control on its victims that would have won you over, because a major element of the story runs counter to your tastes so heavily. The same could be said if I had included political elements that you severely disagreed with. However, for people who do like those things, seeing those topics explored is a massive plus. I reiterate, for some of my readers the creative use of horny mind control is what they stayed for. Others stayed for the army building, which was ALSO mind control focused. 3. “If you want more readers, drop the mind control obsession.” I did. Like. Years ago now. Immediately after I finished this one, in fact. I told you, I’ve been writing a whole other story. It may shock you that the comparatively wholesome one is noticeably less popular than this story was at its height and has very little overlap in readers. I also have another self indulgent horny mind control story, because writing that kind of thing makes me happy and enough people enjoy reading it to justify posting. I explore different avenues and dropped the “boom she’s eternally devoted” angle because it had gotten stale, even by the end of this story. I am proud of all three. I write for fun. I couldn’t monetize this story even if I had a massive reader base, because it’s fanfiction. Why exactly do you assume I want more readers more than I want to write something I personally enjoy creating? Sure, if this was my job it would behoove me to try to maximize readership, but it very emphatically is not.

I can absolutely understand this position. This was my first written story and it was (among other things) made specifically to indulge in my own mind control kink. Blatantly. That was the point. If that doesn’t resonate with someone, that will be a massive turn off. I do not in any way disagree that it has a neutral to negative effect on the story outside of people in a very narrow niche. My next story (which isn’t on webnovel because I frankly hate this platform and it doesn’t allow me to do certain formatting things that are key to how I wrote it. I only posted this story because someone else was trying to steal it) does not indulge in mind control to anywhere near the same degree. It is focused on a much smaller harem, and where mind control IS involved it is dramatically less powerful/reliable. It’s called “well at least I’m a magic pirate now” and is on scribblehub. I’m at more than a hundred chapters, each of which is longer than most of the ones in this story. There are a few chapters posted if you like my writing style but not the MC as core driving mecanic nature of this story. There is basically no way I will ever fully post it on Webnovel fully because reformatting it to make it clear when the MC uses his staten takes substantial time and effort compared to the simple copy paste job this and my other Waifu catalog story allow for.

Eh, not awful but these are very clearly white and orange instead of black and orange, and have a lot more gold in them than a low tier priestess like Annetta has on her.

It’s a hot button issue for some people. I understand that. I just don’t do trigger warnings, especially when doing so would be misleading.

Even more so because by the definition most people think when they read NTR (the MC being cheated on by an unfaithful lover) is not even met by the scene people complain about! Ffs it’s his idea, and done for purely pragmatic reasons!

That would be a ridiculous thing to do, because this is not an ntr focused story and there are quite a few people who can roll with roughly 5 paragraphs of text alluding to something happening offscreen but would not read something with the NTR tag. It would also disappoint any NTR fans who decided to read the story and would expect more. You want me to center something that happens once. I don’t hide or deny it. Anyone who reads the reviews will get a clear view of exactly how much NTR is in there and in what context. I include a warning and explanation before it happens. That it happens at all is too much for some people, that’s fine, but it’s sure as hell not an important part of the plot worthy of tagging or making sure that it’s the first thing people hear about when reading the story.

Plenty of plans went right! It’s just that the times when things go wrong are more memorable because things going right doesn’t need a ton of screentime lol.

lol. In Erich’s defense, he didn’t technically HAVE to do most of the things he’s done. Missions are a carrot, this test is a bit scant on stick.
