Maybe it could evolve into something similar to Decay, where mc doesn't need to make physical contact for the power to work.

Maybe he will use his power to transmute his body to make all parts of his body have the ability like his hand.

I'd almost think it was a weakness the guy put on himself cause he was pretty weird and had put several on himself like that he couldn't use his power though his gloves and such also he wasn't the main villian thus needed some obvious weaknesses for what could be one of the strongest quirks in the series
