yeah........kinda feels like the comedy was forced somewhere it was not needed

i rally really really like this novel so far. it has a nice blend of funny moments and story progression in it. overall i think it is a good read.

the problem is you used two tenses in same sentence.......WAS suffocating and HAVE grave expression .....so fix one.....I am assuming you are going with present pov so fix that WAS suffocating to IS suffocating
