To be honest, it's been a hot minute since I've given a review. but lemme just go ahead and start it all off. For the writing quality, there's something about how the way it reads hat makes me feel as though it's slightly off. It feels similar to the way that Chinese novels have a specific syntax as well. Semantically it's a passable story, which ties into the next aspect I wanna go over. The way that the story develops is very par for the course, and the whole schtick of him wanting to pull a Starman meme while trying to acknowledge the fact that he doesn't really hold heavy connections with any other people just feels like another cut and dry experience, with emphasis on the dry. Speaking of dry, the character in of itself, is just pretty eh..... in the sense that he acts a bit too, how do I go about saying this? Bland. The times that he's been expressing himself with "fervor" kind of just feels like petulance. Anytime he seems to try to reach out, it feels like he only ever gets to the point of "kind of a homie, but more closer to acquaintance". And even when he seems like he's trying to hang with his friends, it has the same energy as the kind of guy that sits at the corner of the room with a drink in hand completely silent. The update sched is decent. That's one of the few upsides that I can get out of this. Finally the world. The televised version of The Boys is far more nuanced and complex than the original comic version. There could have been some more in-depth exploration of the world aside from what was shown on whatever streaming platform people make use of to see it. Overall, it's a very meh experience of a story. Could use a lot more depth, and a bit more understanding how vernacular could tie into it making the narrative seems less droll.
