At 2 hours per attempt, that’s 18 hours of writing. That’s not counting toilet breaks, sleeping, making mistakes etc. So it’s likely that he spent a whole day (24hrs) or more on these 9 attempts. 😵

Is it 5% cumulative (ie. Goes up by 5% each attempt; 15, 20, 25, etc) or is it a flat 5% total for each attempt? Ie. It will remain at 10+5% each attempt, so 15% all the time? 😉
