It's close combat. Imagine expecting a Tsunade punch and then getting blasted + drilled by Minato's Jutsu. Add elements and a lot of training on Rasengan formation speed and Jutsu transitioning speed and then Kapow! Death.

And all that not even talking about the brute force part. I think it takes little chakra and precise chakra control. You could use a shadow clone, splitting your chakra, and then let it or yourself make the basic Clone Jutsu if you want.
One of the advantages of Using shadow clones was how fast he could improve his skills. After using that many shadow clones he had mastered most of the things he should. The only exception was the academy clone jutsu. For some reason he simply couldn't use it, even while his chakra control was good enough to run on water subconsciously.
