Chance, human thought, and lust

Three things that hold immense power and have changed the world throughout history.

Without chance humans would have never existed, the chances of evolving to the point of possessing intelligence is up to 1 in 10 million and this chance shrinks with the complexity of the mind and the risks of being wiped out along the track by a bigger fish or more unlikely event

Without human thought we never would have risen above the creatures that hunted us as prey, only with cunning and brains can one beat a lion and only with intelligence can one rise above another on the food chain. if not for thought we would never see the world as it is today

And without lust humans as a whole would be far less populous than they are now, it is lust that causes humans to bring forth far more successors than they would ever need to succeed their line, it is lust that we grow and use to judge those we hate, disgust and love

These three factors guaranteed the survival of the human race and is these three factors that brought about a new age. The Age of the Powered

in the year 1923 a german scientist by the name of Jarik Cranes was hunted by the authority for his crimes, claiming himself to be a man of progression Jarik had spent the past twenty years of his life focusing on the idea of evolution and how one could continue it. he had noticed the halted progression of humans and decided to accelerate the process. What caused his descent into madness and his infamy at the time however was his use of radioactivity on test subjects in order to cause sporadic and engineered mutations... human test subjects.

He would kidnap any person he could get his hands on, taking them to his laboratory built within the German Schwarzwald and experimenting on them in ways that could only be described as horrific.

And upon the polices discovery of his operation, he decided that no one should ever be able to take away his research and "glorious" results so he blew himself up, taking the lab with him

This however was not the end of his story, see within his base of operations Jarik had required both a way of creating power and a way to alter the forms of the radiation he could use upon his guinea pigs and as the beautiful, twisted mind he was the bastard create the worlds first nuclear reactor within his own base, and when it exploded along with the nutter it went sky high

This was a perfect example of human thought gone too far, but the story had still not ended

In a stroke of impossible chance, a series of events took place on the same day as his death, before the radioactive and chemical waste had even hit the ground six things happened, proving that no one can truly predict chance and to this day some can only explain it as an act of God or the devil

at the moment the explosion went off a perfect eclipse set in place, followed by a solar flair so strong that the moon changed to a deep foreboding red, as the waste flew across the German Schwarzwald and the radiation began to fall down a thunderstorm collided with a hurricane above Baden-Württemberg sending the waste and chemicals across the country, a meteorite of unknown elements collided with the atmosphere burning a portion of the waste to gas, Europe experienced a blackout across a majority of its states, meaning no warning siren went off and finally a swarm of locust the size of a small cloud passed through the mess, scattered in multiple directions by the storms

This was truly circumstance, luck, and chance taken to ridiculous levels, an event so unlikely that to this day the changes have still not been counted but sadly there is one more factor not explored

after the true chaos of what has only been dubbed as The collision of the world or to be more exact 32 people changed, succeeding the will of Jarik Cranes these people changed... Evolved. Some could fly, others were invulnerable, some European, some not but they are just described as the first generation. 6 became heroes that to this day are globally recognizable, 4 became villains so monstrous that even history's greatest tyrants would flinch, and the other 22?

They became the tycoons, the players, the millionaires, and the leaders of religions. and this was where the old saying became true, that "absolute power corrupts absolutely'' as these men and women over the years fell to decadence and debauchery, religious orgys, government-supported breeding through both artificial insemination and manual, and overall lust took over their lives, lust for men, women, young, old, power, drugs and money until they died, overdosed and drowned in their own pleasures. and this left an impact, they had so many children that over the years so many people are descended from them that 30% of the world inherited their "gifts" all diverse in their own ways

Every family has one or two and this is especially true for crime families, crime generally needed some amount of code or organization like the 36 oaths of the Triads or the ten commandments of the Mafia to stay afloat and not at each other's throats

Cane Barlow came from the renowned Barlow Family, one of the main families of the Ivory Syndicate known for its high place in the super-powered black market, they ran the city of La Wiser like a puppet master holding the strings, every member was required to have an ability of some sort and with its million-plus members across the states they were something to fear

One of the main traditions of the main family however was annoying Cane, as one of the heirs his father who was the third seat of the Syndicates council, he was expected to follow any and all codes and rules if he wanted to take after his father

Most had been easy

Work in the Catacombs for a year!? Not so easy

Now while it sounds easy, believe him it's not. There are only 5 positions one can have in the Catacombs

Inmate, Guard, cleaner, manager, and therapist

He obviously wasn't going to be an inmate; the life expectance of a guard was 2 months, and the janitors were less so that only leaves two options in actuality.

He wasn't going to spend the next ten years going from place to place until he had gained enough credentials to run a government site so instead, he had to spend 4 years gaining a bachelor's degree in phycology and getting a job at the nearest catacomb, which he would admit was extremely easy, hell the looked almost ready to kidnap him to get him to work for them

His competitors on the other hand had either died off or were now following his example

Now finally sitting up in bed he began to gather his things and headed to the shower

Time for his first day and first sessions
