The Dream

It all began within the twinkle of an eye, What do you want to become in the nearest future?, Mrs Ojukwutu asked, she was teaching Social Studies as it then was, Ikechukwu who was said to be the brightest in the class stood up and said "I want to become an Engineer" wow, she replied and we clapped for him at the instruction of Mrs Ojukwutu. It was my turn, although I was in a skeptical state contemplating between Medicine and Surgery and Law , I love both but I can only delve fully into just one, I summoned courage and I said "I want to become a medical Doctor",with a contagious smile she said Excellent!!

An applause from my fellow pupils followed suit.

It was our Second term in Primary 5(five),and the school (LEA Primary School Guduwa) organized a Debate competition between My class and Primary Six and so we were to debate on the topic "Farmers are better than Lawyers", wow, being one of the brightest in the class, after Ikechukwu, I was second in command, Laughs, myself alongside Ikechukwu and Daniel were chosen to Represent the class, we were to oppose the motion thereby stating that lawyers are better than farmers.

As the principles of Debate demands, if you definitely want to win then you must make research, so the research began, I asked questions to know what the legal profession was all about, it was in the light of this that I uncontrollably fell in love with the noble Profession, I gathered my facts, coupled with the just developed love for Law as a profession it made things much more easier for me.The Day of the Debate came and I was to speak first, I had not very much confidence but I pulled myself together and convinced the Judges beyond all reasonable doubts ,couple with the fact that a farmer is not learned in the law and as such cannot defend himself in the court of law if found guilty of an offense.

I'm the end we won the Debate, it was a tough one, we had to unanimously agree that both a farmer and a lawyer need the services of each other, The debate indeed brought out a Dream in me to go into the legal profession. Fast forward to my Junior Secondary School Days where cases of injustice and innocent Nigerians, youths to be precise go into jail for crimes they Know absolutely nothing about.

It reinkindled the zeal in me to achieve this dream, a great dream indeed,I became popular in school for my dream, friends addressed me as " OUR BARRISTER" funny huh and most at times I would reply in the local pidgin parlance " I neva be barrister abeg oo" .I was so determined to achieve this dream and I developed the habit of always thanking God for the privilege of this dream.
