Chapter 9: Never Let You Go

Two more days pass of Alaric’s suffocating presence. He rarely leaves my side except to use the bathroom and he conducts his pack business in an adjoining room with a guard stationed at my door. I know his goal is my safety, but he’s making it extremely difficult to sneak out to see Evanora. Something in my gut is telling me to get to her as soon as I can, and to go alone.

I feel much stronger after so much time convalescing but also restless. I try to explain to Alaric that I need something to do to pass the time, but he seems intent on keeping me locked up like a princess in a tower. On the third day I’ve had enough; it’s time for some compromise. I get dressed and start to call out to him in the other room, but he’s at the door when I open it.

“We finally got her to crack. Took all night, but we discovered what the rogue wolf’s intent was,” he informs me. He looks like he has been up all night and in no mood for granting favors.

“And?” I ask.
