It was a weird thing to wake up knowing you had died, met a god, and were reborn into a previously fictional world that went by the name of The Walking Dead.
My only boons in my new life was a skill with guns similar or better to my new fathers, John Dorie, and a slightly enhanced memory so that I could remember things clearly as it would be almost 2 decades since I watched the series by the time canon rolled around, maybe longer since it had been a few years before my death that I had actually watched any of the series from the universe.
Thankfully with my new memory I could dredge up things long forgotten, not quite eidetic memory but close enough for what I would need.
I won't bore you with my life growing up with a cop and later a trick shooter for a father, it was fine and I could tell how much my father cared about me, never had any issues or anything crazy, went to school, graduated a year early at 16 years old nothing too over the top, just wanted to get it over with.
I was half tempted to try to join a police force or the military but that would honestly be a waste as you generally have to be 21 for most and 4 years in the army isn't enough time to get very far through the ranks, so that was a no go for me.
The thing that popped in my mind when my 18th birthday rolled around was the lottery. I knew the numbers of several past winners but I was only now just old enough to play for myself. I suppose I could have given numbers to my father but then I would have to make some uncomfortable explanations of some sort so I decided to wait it out until 2007
That year, as should be obvious, I had won a fairly large lottery, a 330 million divided three ways, equals 110 million before taxes and everything else, I walked away with around 55 million.
I obviously had some very simple plans for this money, survival. I had a large bunker built along with several smaller bunkers built near where I knew things would happen but also out of the way. Texas would house my biggest bunker in between Dale Texas and the Dell Diamond Stadium as that seemed to be where they spent the most time in the series or generally around that area.
The bunker was fairly large, 3 stories, each level over 2,000 SQF buried almost 200 feet underground just incase crazy pants teddy actually manages to launch the nukes. The bunker was well hidden and both solar powered with diesel generators for backup.
The set up wasn't overly important but it had room for over 20 people comfortably or 40 if you didn't mind being packed in a bit. The top most level had a decontamination room near the entrance if needed, a dozen bunks for people with a small armory and mess area with a small recreation room, the rest of the first floor was dedicated to an hydroponics garden.
The middle floor had another 5, slightly larger rooms including my own personal space, a slightly larger armory, recreation room and the rest reserved for hydroponics.
The last floor was relegated to power generation as well as storage for several years worth of supplies. The bunker was powered by hidden solar panels with a shit ton of battery backups and diesel generators with enough fuel for 3 months.
I also spent money slightly renovating my dad's cabin and adding a hidden cellar, stocking food, bullets, and a few guns in sealed tote boxes to keep critters out of them. I didn't really like the condition of how he was living in the series when he stayed in the cabin but honestly he seemed to prefer the simple life.
The cellar was large enough to easily hold enough supplies to last a single person at least a year with thousands of rounds in the more common calibers including a few hundred rounds of .44 for our revolvers.
I suppose I should add that I was also named Jonathan Dorie, after my dad as it seems to be a custom in the family and kept the initials the same for the engraved heirloom pistols. My family seemed pretty simple like that. I should also mention I look like a way younger version of my new pops which is cool but I also liked my old looks as well.
The reason I mentioned the ammo four 'our' revolvers is because my pops found, repaired, customized and spruced up my own pair of revolvers so we could match, with a similar belt, and then I would inherit his in the hopefully distant future. It was honestly a really awesome thing to do and receive and they looked almost just like his pair, including the engravings, and I always thought they were amazing to behold. Or maybe I'm just a gun nut?
The other slightly smaller bunker was located within King County Georgia, kinda on the outskirts of the town that Rick Grimes lives in. This bunker was more geared towards storage but also had a few nice sleeping quarters for myself and whoever else I ever invited.
The bunker was smaller when it came to living spaces for people but actually larger when it came to square footage. Each level had around 3000 SQF and there was also 3 levels.
This bunker was powered by thermal energy and also had some nicely hidden solar panels for a second power source with diesel generators for back up power.
The top level was more dedicated to living spaces and a decked out hydroponics system with all the seeds you could ever want in storage. The middle floor was dedicated to a secured armory as well as a fairly large recreation area with TVs, movie library and books as well as other things like pool table and anything else you could want.
The last floor was dedicated to the thermal power generator, water filtration systems and a massive storage area with anything you could ever want within it. If I was to stay in there alone I could probably survive to the end of canon without too many issues unless something horrendously broke down but that would be horridly boring and lonely.
The only other thing that the Georgia bunker has was a few motorcycles and dirt bikes for travel as needed. I added the ones that I couldn't find that got up to 80-110 mpg which is quite a lot if you ask me.
Other than that I had a few smaller hidden hidey holes, nothing overly special mostly just built and sealed so critters or people couldn't get into the supplies, they were barely high tech storm cellars. 800 SQ feet, boxes of supplies and a few cots with solar power for lights and a small diesel generator just in case.
I honestly wasn't even certain where I wanted to begin my new life in hell but I was contemplating between King county, the Quarry or in the neighborhood the Clarkes live in.
