The Ice Queen

"Um, Yuuki, what is Miyuki doing here?"

"Good evening to you too, Itsuki"

Miyuki seemed calm when Itsuki seemed confused. Yuuki sat down.

"Take your seat Itsuki"

Itsuki sat down on the left side of the table. Yuuki was sitting on his right and Miyuki on his left.

"First things first, I wanna know how your battle went"

Miyuki seemed embarrassed and looked the other way.

'Seems I'll be the one explaining'

After Yuuki explained the whole thing.

"I see, so now Yuuki you have two points, correct?"

"Yes"

Yuuki took out his phone and saw only one point.

"Wait, where did it go?"

"I swear I gave it to you"

Miyuki seemed a bit panicked. She took out her phone and realized her point didn't transfer to Yuuki's phone.

"I remember that I lost a point, I even saw it on my phone after you left"

'It's probably her doing, she doesn't want me to expel students and she doesn't allow my phone to get any more points. Well, she isn't wrong, I mean I don't need the others since I can't lose a battle'

Yuuki put his phone back to his pocket.

"Wait, don't you want me to give you your point back?"

"By the way Yuuki, how did you even end up with one point? I mean you were with me the first day and the second and you didn't fight anyone"

Miyuki and Itsuki was looking Yuuki

"Since we came this far, I should go ahead and tell you"

Yuuki explained what happened with his sister and why he had only one point left.

"I see, so your quest is to gather me and the other two strongest first year students to form an S class team"

"Indeed"

"I'll join"

"Is that so?"

"Yes, I understand the situation you are currently in, so I accept your offer"

'What do you mean offer, no one asked you for it"

Suddenly, Itsuki's phone started ringing. Itsuki took it out of his pocket and he put it next to his right ear.

"Yes…Yes…No…Oh, I'll be right there"

Yuuki and Miyuki looked Itsuki confused.

"Seems like the tutor I have in one hour, will come in some minutes since something came up"

"I see, good luck"

"See ya"

Itsuki left the apartment.

"So"

Yuuki turned his look to Miyuki.

"The other two first year students you are after, are Shinohara Azumi from class 1-C and Murai Emiko from class 1-B"

"That's correct"

"I can't give you many information about Murai Emiko, but I went in the same high school with Azumi. Back on the days, they used to call her the ice queen. Her supernatural ability is ice generation. She will be a very strong opponent if you are planning on fighting her"

"I see"

"Of course, with your power, I hardly doubt she will be a challenge. That's all I wanted to discuss and seems you are done as well, so I'll take my leave here"

Miyuki and Yuuki stood up and walked to the door. Yuuki opened the door for Miyuki and she went outside. Miyuki started walking away when she stopped.

"Oh, Yuuki, last thing"

"Hm?"

"You'll prefer to be in Azumi's bad side than her good"

Miyuki continued walking and Yuuki closed the door. Yuuki was seating to his seat in the school while thinking silently. No one else was in the class

'A month has passed since that day still no progress with the quest my sister gave me first day I came to this school. Last week, me, Miyuki and Itsuki, held a meeting. We decided that the only way to get Azumi's attention is to challenge her in a duel. Miyuki left a letter to Azumi's locker, some minutes ago, that invites her to a duel for tomorrow'

Yuuki stood up and took his schoolbag that he left next to his seat.

'Until then though…'

Yuuki opened the class's door to get out when he saw a girl, with light blue eyes and silver hair, standing in the other side of the door with the letter in her right hand. Her eyes were shining from anger.

"What is the meaning of this"

The girl showed Yuuki the letter.

'So that's Shinohara Azumi'

Meanwhile Itsuki was opening his locker, ready to leave the school, when he saw a letter inside it.

'A letter?'

Itsuki opened the letter and read it. He took it with him and rushed to the rooftop where Miyuki was waiting. Itsuki started panting. Miyuki turned around and saw Itsuki.

"Sorry I'm late, I just saw your letter"

"Don't be"

Itsuki heard Miyuki's voice. Itsuki seemed surprised and raised his head to see Miyuki.

"I want to ask you something…"

Itsuki put his palms near his chest, facing Miyuki, and shaked them slightly.

"No sorry, I don't search for a girlfriend"

Miyuki blushed.

"Th-That's not the point!"

Miyuki sounded irritated by Itsuki's thought. Itsuki stopped and seemed confused.

"Then, why did you call me here at this hour?"

"It's about Yuuki"

Miyuki turned her look to her right a bit.

"Yeah, what about him?"

"I want to know everything you know about him, maybe like this I will understand the way he thinks"

"Oh…"

Itsuki seemed unhappy.

"So, you wanna learn about him, and if you ask him straight away, he won't answer"

"You are the only one knowing him, so it's only natural to ask you, correct?"

"Alright, you know him for a month, so you deserve the truth…"

Meanwhile Yuuki was in front of the class with Azumi.

"Which word didn't you understand?"

"I mean, why didn't you just approach me?"

Azumi sounded irritated

"I don't want to get people's attention"

"Tsk. Whatever, I accept your challenge. We are going to fight in launch break, be ready"

Azumi turned to the left and walked away. Miyuki was lying to her bed, exhausted. She remembered Itsuki talking.

'I've known him since middle school. He was always like that, but I've heard something bad happened to him that made things this way'

'What was that?'

'I've heard his father died when he was six years old, ten years ago, and from that time he was living alone with his sister. His sister left him, when he was fourth year on elementary, and went to study to a better school'

���I see, that explains why he isn't good with interacting with people'

'Say Miyuki, do you know Yuuki's last name?'

'Hm? It's… um… Akiyama?'

'Isn't this name ringing any bells to you?'

'Akiyama…Akiyama…Oh, the school's name'

'Correct, his father made this school. Something else maybe?'

'That explains why his sister came to this school to study'

'I know…'

Miyuki turned to side and slept for the night. Next day Yuuki and Azumi were on opposite sides on the arena. No one was around, only Miyuki and Itsuki that would watch the battle. There were some clouds on the sky that made the day darker.

"So, newbie, how many points will we bet?"

"I only have one"

Azumi seemed surprised and laughed.

"You seriously lost all of your points?"

Azumi stopped laughing. Yuuki was cold.

"Alright, whatever one point it is"

One point was decreased and a message saying "Warning: Battle between Akiyama Yuuki and Shinohara Azumi has begun". No one was moving.

"What's up? Are your scared?"

'I'm gonna end this quick'

Yuuki started running towards Azumi. She raised her right hand and a wall made of ice appeared from her hand to Yuuki's location. Yuuki quickly dashed to the right and dodged the wall of ice.

"What is that speed?"

Azumi seemed frightened. Yuuki got behind Azumi and tried to kick her head with his right leg. An ice appeared between Azumi's head and Yuuki's head. Yuuki seemed a bit surprised and jumped away.

"Did you like my special skill? Frozen defense"

'So, whenever I try to get physical contact, an ice protects her. Of course, she has a weak point and I have to learn it as soon as possible'

Under Azumi's feet, a big cylinder made of ice started generating fast and after some meters Azumi jumped off the cylinder and went to the other side of the arena. She landed and raised both of her hands. A big ice wall started generating from her hands and headed towards Yuuki. He jumped on top of it and started running towards Azumi.

"Tsk"

The wall broke and Yuuki jumped down. Azumi stretched her hands in the height of her chest. Suddenly, ice spikes started generating from different directions, aiming for Yuuki. The ice spikes started heading towards Yuuki really fast, with different timings.

"Let's see you getting away from th—"

Azumi saw how calm Yuuki was and a piece of metal came in his hand from the railings surrounding the arena. It got the shape of a think cylinder of metal. While the first ice spike came behind Yuuki, he turned around and broke it into two with a single blow. Azumi seemed frightened again. She panicked and more ice spikes started heading towards Yuuki faster. One came from his right side, he jumped and hit it with his legs. The spike broke into pieces in the ground. Two other spikes came, on from in front and the other from behind. The one from in front was aiming for his head, while the other was aiming for his legs. He jumped to his left side and broke them together with the metal he had in his hand.

"I-Impossible, how is he able to dodge like that?"

Yuuki kept dodging and breaking the spikes and breaking them with ease. He saw Azumi with a cold look on his face.

"No, no, no"

Azumi generated a big cube of ice that surrounded Yuuki and a big area around him.

"Got you now!"

Azumi clinched her hands and the cube broke into little pieces. Yuuki appeared behind Azumi and exhaled next to her ear. She shuddered and Yuuki tried to hit her head. His piece of metal froze and she jumped away. Yuuki threw the piece of metal, but his hand had some ice. Azumi giggled evily. Soon after, Yuuki's whole body was covered in ice, only his head was out. Azumi slowly walked closer. Meanwhile, Miyuki and Itsuki were watching the battle.

"What was that?"

Itsuki seemed confused.

"She generated ice from that little piece on his hand and trapped him"

"Why didn't she use it earlier, I mean when Yuuki was on the top of the ice wall, or when the spikes where hitting him, or in general?"

"This ability, stalagmite, needs the enemy to stand still and a bit of ice interacting with the victim's body"

"I see"

"So, what do you think? Is this the ending?"

"Yeah, Yuuki won"

Miyuki seemed surprised.

"What makes you say that? Azumi got him, didn't she?"

"Azumi isn't the only one with tricks on her sleeve"

Yuuki smiled slightly.

"What's so funny?"

Azumi suddenly couldn't move. She was sitting still and the ice around Yuuki broke into little pieces.

"N-No th-that's not possible"

Azumi could hardly move her lips to talk. Miyuki seemed surprised.

"Wait, that's—"

"Exactly"

"That's the same move he used to me, he stopped me from moving"

Yuuki's eyes where shing and he stood up.

"I call this, time-stop"

"I don't understand, if he could control her sooner, or break her ice, why didn't he?"

"Just like stalagmite, time-stop needs its victim to stand still and, but the victim has to be in closer range than five meters away from its user. Also, it's the only time that Yuuki can control a human or their supernatural ability"

Miyuki was wondering.

"I see, that's why he stopped me last time"

Miyuki got surprised all of a sudden.

"B-But then, how did he controlled me; I wasn't standing still"

"Well, technically since your ability is to shorten space between two places and make like one step, it counts as standing still"

"I see"

Suddenly a very big sphere made of rock, as big as the whole arena, was heading their way. Itsuki and Miyuki panicked, stood up and shouted to Yuuki and Azumi.

"Behind you!"

Yuuki saw the rock on the sky. Miyuki tried to use her supernatural ability to get there, but a barrier was protecting the arena, so outsiders wouldn't interrupt.

"This thing will destroy the barrier, but I won't make it in time"

Miyuki grabbed Itsuki's shirt from behind and got outside of the stands. The rock was getting closer to the Arena.
