Chapter 06

Running zig zag through the alleys was not so difficult, but unfortunately, it also seemed a small challenge for the pursuer.

It had become evident that he was after her and now she was full on running and cutting through corners and the very few people -mostly beggars and drunks- she met on the way.

She was getting closer to the edge of the streets and Dustin was a small place, earning it the name as it was otherwise known as the dust of the greater cities surrounding her.

She ran straight for some minutes and it felt like this man didn't even want to catch her; he was either getting off on this, or he had other plans. Sarah got to an alley and turned the corner. She was met with a dead end, where there was only one trash can and a lot of debris. She ran to the wall on the end of it, but couldn't find something to scale over it with. Except the waste bin. She turned to get it and roll it to the place she needed it to be, but stopped in her tracks. He was standing just at the curve and smiling at her.

"WHAT DO YOU WANT?" she screamed at the man as she saw no other escape.

"You... apparently" he replied without even heaving while Sarah's breath had caught and she was presently swallowing as much air as her small mouth could take.

"Who sent you?"

"I work alone... don't fight..." he trailed and slowly made his way close to her

she felt helpless and quickly looked around for something to use on him. Eyes settling on an Iron bar that was lain close to her, she reached for it, but was too late as he had read her movements too well.

"Don't even think about it" he said as he kicked it away from her reach and in one stretch, closed in on her

she was faster though, and she jumped out of the way. She ran towards the other end of the wall and crouched as she scooped up a handful of sand, also reaching for a small stick as her defense against the fiend.

Her only thought was to get out of this dead end and/or make him stop...

"don't come closer" she voiced as she saw him move towards her again, this time more determined than before. He seemed to smile down at her and said "I underestimated you... Klint said to take the gun, but you are just a gurl"

"what do you want"

"You" he replied once again with more laughter in his voice. He was absolutely just now playing with her, whereas she was fighting for her freedom and most likely; her life.

"Please..." She didn't get to say more as he charged at her, this time fury evident on his face.

"I hate it when they beg" was all Sarah heard as the iron bar he had picked up earlier was swung close to her head.

she managed to jump up in time, and the rod hit her across the chest, which was better but still felt like death to her. A pained cry left her lips involuntarily and her breath got caught in her throat, as she tried to get up and make a run for it... resolute not to be ended today.

Her legs gave and she toppled into his hands as if he was waiting for her to fall on him. then a bad smelling rag came to her nose and she needed air so bad that she took a deep breath; which turned out to be the worst idea ever. Her eyes dimmed and her senses began to fade and fail her as all she now saw was shades of black and white dancing on the edge of her eyes.
