How to pilot a S.A.M.S! ( 2 )

[ Welcome to the tutorial! Here, you will learn how to pilot a S.A.M.S!  ]

[ In this tutorial, you will learn the basics of movement, how to attack, and how to defend. ]

[ As for " advanced movement " this will be covered in class with your designated teacher. ]

The tutorial kicked off by providing Tatsumi with instructions on how to operate a S.A.M.S.

It firstly say the top priority is the pilot safety, including the importance of checking the seat installation.

To Tatsumi's surprise, he had always assumed that the S.A.M.S seat was fixed and couldn't be altered.

However, he discovered that it could be customized to accommodate different heights.

Additionally, You can also adjust the joysticks and their height, as well as the pedals.

The voice went on to explain that advanced mecha models had the capability to automatically adapt to the pilot's specifications, eliminating the need for manual adjustments.

After the installation was done, Tatsumi  learned how to turn the S.A.M.S using the right joystick.

However, it could only rotate 180 degrees; the S.A.M.S couldn't spin around entirely.

On the left joystick, there were two parts: the upper part controlled the arm movements, and the lower part adjusted the robot's movement speed.

Tatsumi, eager to practice and learn how to make movements, started making the S.A.M.S perform robotic dances like a toy for a child

This made Tatsumi laugh because it looked very unusual. It wasn't like he had imagined; both of the mech's arms moved together as if they were glued.

That was because the mech didn't have a M.C (Movement Chip), a chip installed in the S.A.M.S that defined its movements based on the chip's programming.

The most common MC were  [ the Attacker ]  , which enabled fluid and rapid movements, [ the Tank ], which focused on defensive maneuvers, and [ the Shooter ], which provided stable but slow movements.

There were also less common MC, but they were either owned by the MSC or wealthy families.

"Can you show me some rare MCs?" Tatsumi asked with a glimmer of hope.

[ I do not have access to those MCs. Please be aware that if you have enough money or prestige, you can buy the license from the MSC. ]

"Oh..."

[ Then I will continue. Now, we will move on how to use those three pedals... ]

The tutorial provided an explanation that clarified the functionality of the pedals:

the right pedal served as the accelerator, the middle pedal functioned as the brake, and the left pedal was used for lowering the mech.

When Tatsumi attempted to press the accelerator, it triggered the boosters located at the back of the S.A.M.S, causing the mech to lurch forward.

Inside the pod, Tatsumi could feel the force generated by the mech, even though he wasn't physically inside it.

"Waaa da f*ck!!!" Startled by the sudden acceleration of the mech, Tatsumi reacted by slamming the brake pedal too forcefully.

This action, in turn, activated the mini boosters at the front of the mech, and some panels extended at the back, bringing the mech to a sudden halt.

Tatsumi was both stunned and exhilarated, his heart pounding at full throttle.

"That... that... was... so... COOL!!!" he exclaimed, barely able to contain his excitement.

[This concludes the basic movements tutorial. If you're ready to proceed to the next tutorial, move to the next zone.]

"Nah, this isn't enough !!! " Tatsumi declared with a wide, beaming smile.

He began to practice with the mech, determined to explore its capabilities further. He had never tried using the left joystick to control the mech's speed.

Gripping the joystick, he gently pushed it forward, setting the S.A.M.S into motion. The mech, once standing like a statue, now began to move.

As Tatsumi gradually pushed the joystick forward, the mech began to move faster and faster.

Releasing the joystick, the mech maintained its speed. Tatsumi then took the right joystick with a determined and excited look.

Taking a deep breath, piloting a mech was somewhat like driving a car; the only difference was the size and the added arms.

Tatsumi began to goof around, making right and left movements, and even trying out the brake to slow down the pace.

When he tried to touch the crotch pedals, the mech walked with its legs bent.

However, when he pressed the pedal all the way, the S.A.M.S started sliding.

He suddenly released the pedal, the mech jumped, which surprised Tatsumi.

Determined to explore every aspect of the S.A.M.S, Tatsumi gently placed his foot on the accelerator pedal, boosting the mech's speed with the booster on the back.

The more he pressed, the faster the S.A.M.S speed became, reaching a point where it began to rise from the ground. Tatsumi thought it might fly, but...

[ Please refrain from flying over 3 meters from the ground! ]

Tatsumi was disappointed, but he was still very pleased with what he had experienced.

He had finally piloted a S.A.M.S, albeit in a virtual setting. While there were sensations, it wasn't the same as the real thing....

"Let's move on to the next tutorial!!" Tatsumi said with a smile, heading towards a shooting range.

[ Welcome to the "how to attack and defense" tutorial. ]

[ Here, you will learn the fundamentals of how to attack with a S.A.M.S. ]

The tutorial then explained how to retrieve a weapon, which was quite easy. It simply required pressing one of the buttons on the dashboard.

The dashboard was divided into right and left sections.

The right buttons were for basic movements like reloading, weapon retrieval, and exiting the cockpit....

The left buttons were for activating or deactivating mech functions, such as turning assistance....

The mech took the weapon in its hands, a simple pistol, holding it with a single hand. A crosshair appeared on Tatsumi's interface....

Aiming was straightforward, similar to a video game. When an enemy was in front of the crosshair, the pilot could press the trigger on the right joystick to perform an action.

As for close-quarters combat movements, they depended on the installed M.C.

A  S.A.M.S could imitate the movements of a professional boxer with the right M.C.
