The Fox Spirit

There's a tale of a fox who used to roam around our village. They said it would take a form of a beautiful woman and seduce men. And sometimes, it would take a form of a man and seduce women. That would explain all the disappearances in our village and all the villages nearby. There were always people missing never to be seen again. People blamed the demon fox spirit. They warned everyone not to go to the forest at night and never go anywhere alone. They especially warned not to trust a beautiful person who tries to lure them alone.

half blood demon

It was warm and it was dark. It was hard for me to see. I tried to squirm around when I noticed the walls of my prison is wet and slippery. It moved as though it was alive squeezing me deeper and deeper in its belly.

I can't move, I can't breathe. It felt like I'm being suffocated, being eaten alive by a large animal.

A scream escaped my lips muffled inside the living wall of this monster.

Help! I cried out about to lose whatever little left of my consciousness when the wall that's been holding me captive ruptured, spilling blood and guts everywhere. I crawled out of its belly and gasped for breath as soon as I was free. The rotting smell waft the air enough to make me gag.

As though being trapped inside it wasn't disgusting enough, Im also covered in its gastric juices and blood.

I looked around trying to discern what happened when a pair of legs walked up closer. He held a bloodied blade in his hand wiping it clean with a piece of cloth.

He paused as soon as he got close enough and slid the blade back to its sheathe. He crouched. My eyes slowly dragging to his face.  Shocked and shaken I might be, I still need to thank my rescuer.

"Yoo-?"...no, that couldn't be him. I squinted my eyes to see better but he had spoken before I could wrap my mind around.

"You were almost eaten, Hana. Thank goodness I made it in time."

That familiar voice.

"Yoon?" I said confused. What're?...How?

He tore a piece of cloth from his robe. An odd choice of fabric, nothing about his outfit nor the way he looked made sense. He looked like he was from another world. Yoon cleaned part of my face. "You were lured here by a demon. You seemed to have attractive a demon who you found you appetizing."

"What?" How can it be a demon, last time I remember I was being glamoured by a fox.

"Some demons can take all kinds of forms." He continued seeing the bewilderment on my face. "Just like most spirits, it can transform itself to what you want to see and charm you to seeing what you desire."

I blushed. Have I been secretly fantasizing about a fox spirit this whole time?

Yoon chunked the dirty fabric on the ground. "Not so dreamy anymore, is it?"

His gaze flicked to the chopped monster and I followed his eyes.

It was a grotesque looking demon with contorted face, large head, big belly and limbs like twigs.

"I was dreaming." I said finally.

He kicked the demon's body that's slowly incinerating, a hot wave of heat hugged me, until the body turned into ashes carried away by the drifting wind.

I looked at him again, opening my mouth. I wanted to say something but not sure how to say it. He pressed a comforting smile. Yoon plucked the word out of my mouth. "This is my natural form. I could tell you were starting to suspect something different about me."

"What are you?" I asked.

"I'm exactly what you think." His fox ear twitched, my eyes wandered behind him looking for a tail when he said, "no tails. Only pure foxes have those and I'm only a half-blooded demon."

Half blood demon? Okay, he's got a long story to tell.

Yoon stretched back to his height lifting my hand with him. I stood up, wobbly legs trying to get their balance. I managed to get on my feet without falling back. There's so much questions running through my mind unable to decide which one to ask first.

Where am I?

How did I attract a demon?

And how does he looked so different from before?

"You looked like you got spat out of hell." Yoon remarked.

No shit! Like literally.

Yoon reached out and began unraveling my soaked clothes. He took his top off making me blush in front of him. I tried not to watch him strip naked drifting my eyes everywhere but his body.

Yoon finished and handed his robe. "Wear that for now until we can get back home and take a hot bath."

I took the robe from him and slipped into it. His smell clung to his clothing. It smell like Yoon. I put the robe on me, feeling the warmth of his shirt blend with mine

I noticed traces of odd foot shape on the ground as we walked. I observe the strange phenomenon when he said. "So, you can see them now?"

I glanced at him. "What're those?"

Yoon took a quick glance. "That looked like and ox spirit." He said and pointed at a pair of eyes watching us. "They're everywhere. Spirits and demons, I mean. You can spot them easily if you have the gifted eyes."

"Gifted eyes?"

"I've always known you have the gift. That's why that demon was so attracted to you. I knew there's something different about you when I first saw you. There's people who are born sensitive to spirits and you are one of them."

"What about you?" I asked, staring at his pair of protruding ears.

"Oh these?" He murmured, tracing the lines of his fox ears. "My mother is a fox and father is that excuse for a human you call stepfather."
