On the Road to the Blackwoods Estate

Alaric took his time savoring the last bites of his breakfast, the warmth of the pancakes and the sweetness of the syrup mixing with the lingering comfort of family around him. It was a rare feeling—this sense of peace—and he was reluctant to let it go. The morning sunlight filtered softly through the windows, casting a golden glow over the kitchen. Lucy had gone off to play outside, while his mother and grandmother had returned to their respective routines.

But now, duty called once again.

He looked across the table to where Gilbert stood, ever patient, near the doorway, waiting for his next instructions. The loyal servant had already prepared everything for the journey ahead, but Alaric could see the faint glimmer of concern in his eyes.

Alaric finished his cup of coffee and stood, stretching his arms over his head. "Alright, Gilbert," he said, his voice firm but relaxed. "Get the car ready. We'll leave for the Blackwoods' estate once I'm done here."
