The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

Siren song

I stood up slowly. I didn't like what she was doing right now. I crossed the room quickly. Whatever she was doing she was increasing the amount of power she put into it. I grabbed her wrist. Squeezing a little harder then necessary.

She cried out mostly out of surprise as she tried to get out of my grip.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Amelia seemed to be angered by me, and everyone that was being affected by her got angry in response.

Goliath seemed to be the only one resisting.

"Stop," I snapped as my bloodlust seeped out, "I can, and I will break your wrist before anyone of them can stop me."

"Stop him," Amelia ordered suddenly, "He's going to hurt me."

Her wrist popped painfully, and she screamed. Her ability stopped working, and everyone who'd been affected shook their heads slowly looking groggy. She dropped back into her seat crying.

"What's the matter with you?" She cried, "Don't you find me attractive."

"No," I let go of her wrist, "I don't think you're attractive. Is that how your ability works?" I paused thinking it over a bit, "That actually makes a lot of sense. Everyone that thinks you're hot falls under your control." I snorted out a short laugh, "I find you about as attractive as the chair you're sitting in so your ability didn't work on me. Sucks to be you."

"Wyatt Nix," Goliath shouted.

I flinched focusing on him.

"You won't get to use the arena today," Goliath snapped, "Or for the rest of the semester if you do that again."

"But she..." I started to protest.

"Keep talking, and you'll be staying here for the rift city trip," Goliath glared at me as I backed off.

I walked back to my seat away from the others, and dropped down in it angrily. It was probably pretty obvious to anyone watching that I was acting like a petty little kid as I kicked the seat in front of me hard enough to bend the metal. I was probably being stared at by all the kids in the club, but I was too busy being mad to care. Savannah was assigned to take Amelia to the infirmary. Savannah gave me a funny look as she walked by with Amelia.

I didn't know what that look was for, and I was too angry to really give a shit. My stomach growled distracting me from the anger. I needed to get something to eat soon. Goliath wouldn't keep us here forever. I could survive for now.

"Jesse Kravens," Goliath called.

Jesse was smart enough not to argue with Goliath. One look at that guy, and I knew I didn't like him. I wasn't even sure why I didn't like him. Maybe it was instinct guiding me again. The same way I could sense attacks from behind or when I could sense someone noticing me.

I just didn't like him. Jesse headed to the middle of the forest path like the others. At some point he'd stopped to get a weapon. I'd been throwing a tissy fit so I hadn't noticed him stop. He held his guns at the ready as the monkey creature slowly formed in front of him.

The monkey started moving as soon as it fully formed. Jesse looked startled, but that didn't stop him from shooting at the monkey repeatedly as it jumped around in the trees. His guns clicked, and the monkey rushed in only to be impaled on the foot long spikes that had burst out of the whole side of Jeese that the monkey hit. Jeese smiled as the bone spikes retracted.

"Simulation passed," The computer melted the monkey down.

"A lot of C type abilities in here," I mumbled to myself.

Bone manipulation. That one was pretty rare too. Mostly because of the high number of drawbacks. People with this ability usually could only manipulate or grow their own bones. Hardening them, and extending them out of the skin at will.

You had to be close to use it, and it was bad when those extended bones broke off. They had to eat a massive number of calcium supplements anytime it did happen because it wasn't like they're body could produce more calcium out of nowhere. Never mind the fact that the ability forced you to be up close, and personal with creatures that were trying to kill you. Most people just opted out of having an ability if bone manipulation was the only ability they were compatible with. Those that did choose it were usually messed up in the head.

It was known as the psychopaths ability. It was clear to me by the smile on Jesse's face that he had definitely chosen this ability. That crazed smile. I stood up on impulse. Barely keeping my murderous intent in check.

This guy. He was a killer. A part of me wanted to jump down there, and freeze him to death right quick, but the drop in temperature made me remember. I couldn't be caught. Not here, and not now.

My emotions settled as I sat down, and looked at my feet. If I get the chance I should kill him.

"Lisa Mathews," Goliath called out.

His voice broke my train of thought, and I was actually pretty stunned at what I'd been thinking. I looked at Jesse again. If I got him alone I would probably kill him. I didn't have any proof that he was a killer so I couldn't just kill him. Could I?

Lisa Mathews stood up nervously from next to her twin, and jumped from where she was sitting straight to the center of the arena. She had a very obvious strength enhancement ability. Was it a strength specific one or physical enhancement in general? I leaned forward in my seat. I didn't feel fear from Ethan anymore.

He must be out of his club now. The red panther slowly formed in front of her. Waiting a few seconds before moving. I growled at her threateningly as it leapt towards her suddenly. It hit her on the chest, and she slid back a few feet, but didn't go down.
