The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

Routine

The normal sleep the day away attitude from me was pretty much ignored now. Fitness class was sucky as usual. I hadn't gained stamina or strength from the class in a while so it had stopped being my favorite class. Now I just did laps unless I was told we were supposed to be sparring. When I did spar I sparred Ethan.

I managed to level up my hand to hand combat skill though so it wasn't a complete loss. I wanted to get back to the dorm as soon as possible, or go to the VR room, but I felt kind of guilty making Ethan pay for my time so that wasn't going to happen until the benefit of going outweighed my guilt for making him pay. I stretched slowly at the end of class as I yawned. It didn't take too long to get to the dorm. Switching back to dragon form, and stretching my wings as I laid down gently.

They felt awesome when I held them partially open like this. Then I realized that Ethan hadn't seen my new size up close yet. I was kind of surprised he wasn't all over me. I looked over to him, and held back a yawn. Ethan was just watching me carefully.

I extended my wings out slowly until they were fully extended as I watched his reaction. My left wingtip just barely touched his leg, and I pulled it in just enough to keep it from touching him. Ethan crouched down next to me, and ran his finger along the front of my left wing as I slowly curled them both back in.

"That's so cool," Ethan smiled slowly, "I think your wings are growing faster than you are."

"For now," I stood stretching slowly, and turning to go to my room, " I need to go to bed. I just wanted to stretch out a little before going to bed."

I walked into my room, and closed the door before climbing into bed. Curling up in bed, and falling asleep pretty quickly. The alarm went off bringing me back to full awareness. I growled at the alarm as I rolled out of bed. I hit the floor on all fours stretching quickly as I got ready to switch forms so I could go to class.

I'd collected a few sets of dirty clothes off the floor, and threw them into the dirty clothes bin. I pulled some fresh clothes out from under the bed, and switched forms so I could get dressed for class. Time for one more boring sucky day. I stretched now that I was clothed, and in human form. I stepped out of my room, and smiled at Ethan as he brushed his teeth.

I sat down at the desktop, and looked up VR videos. I only had time to watch one, but I was interested in how other players did in the game. I clicked the first one that came up. It was some sort of highlights of the month video. It show a couple of trick shots.

Then a few long shots. Followed by a lot of clips of me dropping in, and taking out players. I just stared at the screen as it showed a few people in between my kills, but most of my kills were on the video.

"This can't be good," I mumbled halfway to myself.

"What can't be good?" Ethan leaned in to get a look, "No it's fine. Teachers don't play on this game, and there's no way for anyone to find out it's you."

"Are you sure?" I looked at Ethan sideways, "Because if anyone figures me out we're both in trouble."

"It's fine," Ethan stretched, "Look at the comments. A bunch of people think you're a hacker anyways."

"That's not much better," I stood up clicking off the video, "What if some tech guy decides to come down, and stop me from being a hacker? Even if he can't figure out who I am he might be able to figure out what pods I'm using."

"It's fine," Ethan took his toothbrush back to the bathroom, "You're a popular player. They're not going to kick out free advertisement unless everybody starts to hate you. You're getting people to play the game. That's all they care about."

"Let's go," I left the room.

I couldn't stop thinking about getting tracked back to the school pods. Technology was in almost everything nowadays. A decent hacker could get into half of the existing computer systems with ease. That's why most military servers operated on their own private network. That didn't mean shit to a technopath though.

Technopath's could connect two different systems by using themselves as the connection between the two. The more powerful ones could get into pretty much any system they wanted to. I could feel myself mentally squirming under the idea of being caught. I walked into the first class, and sat down blank faced as usual. It didn't matter how much mental turmoil was going on within.

I almost never showed my emotions on my face nowadays. It kind of weirded me out since I was so expressive before, but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Now I didn't have this annoyed look on my face every class. I dropped my head on my arm, and started napping the classes away like usual. I didn't have time to think about stupid stuff like my expression right now.

I had other things I needed to worry about like my fear of a technopath deciding to figure out who I really was. It probably wouldn't happen since it was a school server, but that didn't stop me from thinking about it when I was awake. Lunch was awesome.

375/400 xp until level 7.

Then some more nap time before fitness stuff again. I started jogging as soon as I got into the classroom. The teacher usually just let us do whatever as long as we didn't sit still for long. He seemed to focus on the higher level students so Ethan, and I were basically completely ignored all week. I wondered if he would change the course material again next week after the rift city trip.

*****

By the way I was offered the webnovel contract to be paid for my work. I turned it down because I wasn't willing to lose publishing rights to my story SO my story will continue to be free. However it's first draft work. I do intend to finish the story on here, edit it, and re-release it once it's been completed through amazon self publishing. I would love it if you added it to your library when I'm done.

Have some idea about my story? Comment it and let me know.

For those of you who are curious what happened to my goat. She lost her baby to in utero complications. She herself is perfectly fine. A little upset, but that's pretty normal.
