The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

I nodded to Ethan quietly as he came out of his room. He waved at me weakly before stumbling into the bathroom. Dull in the morning as usual. I dropped my head slightly as I stood up. Time to go to class.

The teacher looked uncomfortable with my pinpoint focus on his lesson. I smirked slightly as I leaned back in my chair. He focused on the screen, and seemed to decide to ignore me. The rest of my classes went basically the same way as the first. Then it was time for fitness class.

Fitness class was a different story. Savannah's dad was there observing. I could feel my guts clench as my instincts pinged him as dangerous over, and over again. Besides the slight widening of my eyes my face didn't change at all. I was glad that I was so expressionless now.

My perfect poker face worked wonders when it came to situations like this. I walked across the field to a quiet patch, and started practicing slowly. I kept a close eye on him without actually keeping my eye on him. I just knew where he was based on my instincts screaming danger, and which direction the danger was in. My muscles wanted to tremble under his gaze, but I couldn't let them.

I inhaled slowly, and exhaled just as slowly. My nerves steadied, and my movements accelerated. He was coming up behind me. I could tell. I froze mid move, and debated on turning around.

I knew he was right behind me. I flinched when he reached for me, and whipped around while moving out of his range.

"Can I help you sir?" I phrased it as a question, but my tone was a bit clipped.

"You knew I was coming up behind you?" Mr. Earl looked mildly interested by this, "Good instincts, but why flinch away from your superior?"

"I don't know you sir," I frowned, "Why would I let someone I don't know touch me?"

"Interesting way of thinking," he looked almost amused by the tension running through me, "Your control over your body is decent. How about a spar?"

"With you?" I watched him nod slightly, "No thanks. I'd lose in no time so why waste the time?"

I started walking away from him calmly.

"Who the hell do you think you are?" Mr. Grapper gripped my arm tightly hissing in my ear, "If one of the four greats asks you for something you give."

"Just like I told him," I grabbed his wrist slowly pulling him off of me while releasing intense murderous rage, "I don't feel like wasting my time or his by losing quickly."

He paled as I slowly let go of his hand, and kept walking away calmly as if nothing had happened. My murderous rage sucked back in, and was replaced by calm collected control. I changed direction slightly heading for Ethan. I glanced over my shoulder to double check that my instincts were right, and he wasn't following. Mr. Grapper was nervously talking to Mr. Earl.

Mr. Earl however couldn't give a shit less what he was saying. He was giving one word answers, and watching me walk away. I'd drawn his attention. He'd be watching out for me from here on out. I'd made a huge mistake, but he was leaving me alone so I couldn't really complain about it all.

I didn't like him at all, and it seemed like he was going to be sticking around. I met his eye for only a second, but I could feel a chill run up my spine. This guy was not the kind of person I wanted to have watching me. I would have to deal with that later. I had other things I needed to focus on for now.

He left me alone for the rest of class, and didn't seem to care when I left at the end. I couldn't handle much more stress at the moment. As soon as I got back to my room I threw my clothes off, and switched forms. Savannah would be here soon. I could feel her coming closer.

I needed to know what she found out about possible rebounds from being transformed for too long. I slowly tensed, and relaxed my muscles. It felt good to be in my real body. Even if I was in a tight room. I started playing with my tail again.

I'd left my bed up against the wall when I left earlier. I inched the door open, and peeked out slowly. Ethan was working quietly at his desk. I pushed the door the rest of the way open quietly with my nose. I kind of wanted his attention, but he seemed busy.

I startled myself with my own line of thought. I chuckled. I was thinking like a spoiled pet. I can't act like a pet. I'm a dragon.

I'm supposed to be a powerful beast. I can't act like an attention starved cat. My wings started twitching as I pulled in the humorous attitude, and looked at the door.

"Savannah's here," I gently squeezed through the door of my room.

I switched color to exactly match the room behind me. I pushed the door open gently. Only allowing enough room for me to see her.

"Come in quickly," I whispered, "And close the door behind you."

I leaned back. Keeping my color matched to the room behind me. Savannah shoved the door open quickly, and slammed it shut behind her. I went back to normal coloring. I was taking up a little over a quarter of the room so Savannah was pretty close to me.

"Are you an idiot?" Savannah snapped, "Just sitting out where you can be seen."

"I was properly camouflaged," I snorted, "Besides aren't we worried about backlash from the spell."

"You're still an idiot," Savannah yelled.

"These rooms have thick walls," I growled quietly, "But they're not sound proof." I paused, "Quiet down dumbass."

Savannah looked startled for a second before closed her mouth, and turned her head to give the wall a dirty look.

Sorry about no chapter yesterday. My animals are about to start dropping all their babies so I'm a bit distracted.
