Main character takes the place of Han Sen from Super Gene. For unexplained reasons, Lux, the main character, has a ridiculous drop rate of beast souls though, so he's got that going for him. Mostly follows canon in the beginning but will seriously diverge farther into the story as the MC becomes more powerful than Han Sen did much earlier. Will actually be a harem unlike in Super Gene. My chapters tend to be a little large... girthy you could say. I do not own Super Gene. Just like the world its based in. patreon.com/ChainedChompira if you want to read ahead or check out my other works.
The ill-advised hunt had lasted for five days. It took Lux another three days to completely jerk the Armadillo meat and feed the scraps to Aster. Obviously, in that time he had eaten a substantial amount of the meat as well. But he had only gotten a few points from his consumption so far.

At some point when he wasn't paying attention, all of his primitive beast souls had ranked up to Mutant. He had also sold off the majority of the excess beast souls. The only reason that the net had worked on the Silver Bird had been because it had ranked up to mutant. Otherwise, it would have only held it down for a few moments before it broke out.
So far, he had gained 2 points from the Armadillo meat. He wasn't sure if he was going to get any more before the final round of the Chosen tournament began. But he really didn't need the points to win. The Buffs from eating that Vine had been quite substantial and were helping tremendously.

The two new buffs [Energy Flow Multiplier] and [Hyper Geno Art Practice Speed Enhancement] were game changers. [Energy Flow Multiplier] in particular was crazy. Normally, one would have to use special techniques to practice multiple geno arts simultaneously. This buff made it so that Lux could run multiple sutras at the same time without having to do anything special to make sure that he didn't explode or something. And [Hyper Geno Art Practice Speed Enhancement] just made it so that practicing the Sutras more effective and progress was faster. Meaning that Lux's overall pace of growth would increase dramatically, which was a little scary, seeing how he was already starting to fully outpace people in the first Sanctuary without even finishing off his Mutant and Sacred-Blood Geno Points.
After Lux had finished off his work of turning the Armadillo into Jerky he suited up and returned to the Martial Hall to wait out the final two days before the Chosen round. He kept on getting a weird feeling that things were going to go wrong if he did anything other than that. There was even a strange debuff that kept getting deleted. Lux wasn't sure what it was, where it was coming from, or why he was feeling a certain type of way. But he felt almost like he was defying some heavenly mandate.
Lux had not tested his physical strength, but his buff had gone up and his practice of the Jadeskin Sutra had experienced a leap forward. Though not to the level of a Small Success, Lux could already tell that he was significantly stronger than he had been at the start of the tournament.
Anyway, Lux practiced in the Martial Hall until the day of the finals. He would have to fight with all nine of the other top ten participants. This was sure to be a true test of skill, strength, and equipment. Lux was going to be pulling out all the stops at this point. Except for archery of course. That was his Han Sen personas thing. To really make the illusion of separation between the two identities complete, Lux really needed to get ahold of a Clone/Doppelganger type Beast Soul. With that he could show up as both Lux and Han Sen at the same time and place visibly so that no one could ever say that they had never seen the two of them in the same place at the same time. It would add an extra layer of security.
The day of the event started and Lux stepped onto the Arena floor. His first opponent was a woman representing the Green Rock Shelter. She had been one of the chosen ranked 6th last year. Unfortunately for her she was not in a good position to fight with Lux. He summoned up his newest beast soul, the Crystal Armadillo shield. It was a large round tower shield with crystalline spikes jutting out the front. Lux gripped it in his left hand and held his spear in his right hand. Standing across from his opponent.
They exchanged no banter as she summoned up a set of beast souls that manifested as a whip, an armor that covered her in scales, a buckler shield and oddly enough a pair of boots. The countdown ended and the two of them exploded into action.
The Whip was obviously a Sacred-Blood weapon, it lashed out and wrapped around Lux's spear like it was a living thing. Attempting to wrench it to the side as Lux lunged forward. Unfortunately for the girl he was fighting, the attempt to throw him off failed miserably. She attempted to dodge, only partially succeeding, as the blade at the end of the spear grazed her side and ripped straight through her armor like it wasn't even there, leaving a gash across her ribs and drawing out pained shout of anger. She lashed out with the whip once more, but Lux was too close and he put on another burst of speed before ramming his spiked shield into her body.
The woman fell back with multiple wounds covering her front and spat out a surrender. Lux was too well armored, too strong, and too fast for her to deal with. Lux was not surprised by the outcome. A whip against a man in full plate armor? That was madness.
The first five fights ended that day after a couple of hours. Not because the fights were held separately, but because most of the fights ended up being long. Everyone would face their next opponent the next day at the same time. Those who had been wounded left to get treatment and the rest seemed content to stay put. Lux spent the time waiting for his next match cycling through the Jadeskin Sutra until he decided to take a nap.
The next day, he fought a man who was actually quite well equipped to deal with armor. His beast soul weapon was a Warhammer. The thing was vicious looking with spikes on one side that looked like teeth. Lux was actually quite interested in possibly getting ahold of a Warhammer beast soul.
The only problem for the man that Lux was facing was that Lux was significantly faster than him. The speed difference was so large that Lux didn't even hurt the guy, ending up just resting his spearpoint on the man's neck after the first confrontation and the guy surrendered.
Lux was wondering what he was going to find when he went through another fitness test. He was pretty sure that he had more than passed the 15.0 mark. But he wasn't sure by how much. And that was ridiculous. By the time he ended up maxing everything up to Sacred-Blood, Lux was fairly certain that he would be more than able to face a Super creature head on.
Lux utterly dominated every opponent over the course of the finals. Nothing that any of his opponents could do got through his armor. Transformations didn't outclass his own transformation. Even if the opponents were around his same level of fitness, they were just not equipped to deal with him. The advantage of having full armor, spear, and shield was just too great to overcome for people who couldn't simply outclass him in physical strength and speed. Without an overwhelming advantage, everyone in the same rank as Lux was just too weak to do anything to him anymore.
At the end of the tournament Lux found himself rated as the number one within the first Sanctuary. This was where Lux wondered how Beast Souls worked at all in this universe. From what he understood, Humans were the only species capable of acquiring beast souls. It was unique to them. Yet the first sanctuary itself actually handed them out as a reward for reaching the top ten in the competition. They were called beast souls, did that mean that they were literally souls? If so, did that mean that humans were literally enslaving souls to work for them? And how did the Sanctuary trap and award people with souls? Lux didn't know. If it was ever explained in the novel he sure as hell didn't remember. His memory of the novel was pretty damn spotty at best.
After winning the tournament, Lux placed his hand on the Sacred Stele of the Martial Hall where his name appeared. And in his mind a sort of wheel of fortune began to spin with the images of various creatures flashing by. This was the lottery of beast souls that he was rolling for. Every one of the Chosen would get a roll for a Sacred-Blood beast soul. Lux wasn't even sure what he wanted. He already had all the beast soul types that he needed. He had armor that he could use in both his public personas. A plethora of weapons. He really didn't need any new kind of beast soul. But he would accept anything that came that is for sure.
When the wheel of fortune finally stopped Lux was looking at a very strange frog-like fish creature that had a lantern dangling from a tentacle like appendage above its mouth.
[Beast soul of the Sacred-Blood Angler Gulper gained.]
The sanctuary informed him of his newly acquired beast soul. Lux pulled up the menu to see what it was and smiled. He had just been thinking that he would like one of these the other day. It was a pure support type of beast soul. But it would be super useful to make sure that Han Sen and Lux could be seen as separate people. It was a Clone type beast soul. He could deploy it, and it would take his form. He would also equip it with his beast souls, what was odd was that he needed to be within about a mile of it or else it would dismiss itself and return to his sea of soul.
Lux left the shelter and found a secluded place where he ran his clone through a series of tests. He could speak through it and directly control its movements. But it could also do stuff completely autonomously with just a few orders. This made the beast soul incredibly useful. All he would need to do is coincidentally run into his clone now in a public place and really show that he was not the same person.
Now with the competition over, Lux was just waiting on his Shrieky Beast ranking up and doing the finishing touches on his game. He hurried home to finish the task. And to publish his second Hyper Geno Art. The Atomic Standard Sutra. Lux was so close that he could practically taste the small success stage of the Jadeskin Sutra, and after he reached it he would start practicing his personalized version of the 72 Earthly Transformations. He very well may start off the Heresy Sutra as well.
Lux had been super lucky that whatever the licenses that military had given him had given him access to literally all of the stuff that the Saint Hall held in its files. Because the Heresy Mantra was not among the things that regular people could simply access there. It was incomplete, and the files on the Heresy Sutra were also incomplete. Lux had gotten ahold of both of them and [Machine Learning] had reconstructed them and made them better. But that actually made the side effects worse. The Heresy Sutra that Lux had reconstructed would more than likely drive anyone but him mad if they tried to practice it. He was relying on the fact that his system would negate the debuffs of 'Hunger' and the like.
Actually, Lux didn't have a reason to wait on the Heresy Sutra anymore did he? He could run more than one Hyper Geno Art at the same time now that he's gotten a buff for it. He needed to figure out how to run two at the same time without the buff so that he could maintain and practice more than what was allowed with just the buff, but for now he absolutely could run the Heresy Sutra without it interfering in his Jadeskin small success stage.
The Heresy Sutra was a bit special in that it would just run by itself unless you purposefully stopped it. Jadeskin and most others required one to actively focus and perform specific motions and chants at the correct times. The Heresy Sutra just required that you start it and let it run. As long as you didn't interfere with it, its first phase would just do its thing. As far as a Sutra went, The Heresy Sutra was super specialized into just one thing. Fortifying everything to do with the cardiovascular system. Heart, Lungs, Blood Vessels, Marrow, Spleen, Kidney, Liver, and any other organ that was responsible for some aspect of blood in the body was essentially upgraded and made incredibly strong. It happened in four phases that were named something stupid before Lux had had simplified it. Stockpiling Phase was the first one, where essentially all of the energy of the body was being stored in the blood and the related organs. This was the thing that caused the starvation effect. The other phases were called: Pierce the Veil, Longevity, and Eternal Heart. In the Mantra only the first phase had negative side effects as far as Lux could tell. But in his Sutra all four had negatives. Pierce the Veil would cause hallucinations until it was completed. Longevity would cause a myriad of usually age-related health effects on the body. And Eternal Heart would put you through all of the previous effects combined.
Lux was walking home and shrugged. His system would pull him through the negatives just fine. And the benefits were pretty great with this Sutra. So he started it up even as he made his way to the teleporter to return to the alliance.
