Looking at the man who he respects the most, with full of betrayal emotions displayed in Ares eyes. That cold expression was the last things he saw before he sank into the depth of blue ocean and died.
The 2 years he spent with his general since he was 15, was burnt as if there were never exist.

But just after Ares learnt to let go and move on, his uncle, Dave, found out about his death and attacked Noah. Assuming that Noah was the one who murdered Ares.
Of course Ares wanted to help Noah since he once was saved by that man. But if he was going to help Noah, that means he'll get involved with Diego once again. That's something he didn't want.
