In the Kingdom of Atharia, Prince Ronan is only known as the brutal, deformed second son of King Garrick and second in line to his seemingly perfect older brother Prince Magnus.
Lady Hyacinth has been locked away in her family's castle for most of her life by her father due to her "Affliction", until he seizes a chance to rid himself of his oldest daughter by betrothing her to Prince Ronan.
Thrust into a marriage she never wanted, with a man she feared before even setting eyes on him, Hyacinth must learn to navigate court life while learning more about the man who she now calls husband.
Despite their initial distrust of each other, Ronan and Hyacinth slowly begin to understand each other while fighting their constant, and intense, attraction to each other.
But as Hyacinth begins to believe she might be allowed to finally have a future to look toward to, and a man to love both in her heart and her bed, danger soon surrounds the young couple.
