No... What is that Valkyrie doing?! Why was she performing a Dark Spell when her entire being is made out of the Light Elemental Energy?! She's going to kill herself at this... Hang on, is this one of those Contradictory things? I remember the novel mentioning this part, but...
To see it happening in front of my very eyes was a bit far-fetched. There's no way I can protect myself against her attack, let alone overpower it to win. Vincent saw that I was wearing fear on my face, so he decided to step in front of me with his Aura exploding into dangerous heights.
"I know I've been on the offensive side for a while now, but I assure you, I live up to my class type. So here, I'll show you. Just focus on defeating the spell once my spell shatters," told Vincent as he turned behind to smile at me.
Alright, it's one of those moves again... I've got a feeling that it's going to be repetitive. Oh well, since we will go on adventures together, let's see how well we complement each other. I firmly nodded as Vincent smiled and spun his lance around his figure before stabbing it into the ground.
"Hear me! Bellows of Kur. The Misstress of the Underworld beckons. The Queen of the Irkhalla with absolute authority to rule over the dead and cast judgment upon them... I plead for you to help me invoke the Burning Shrine, Meslamtaea," chanted Vincent as his lance switched forms.
The lance had now solidified into an elongated cage with golden bars while retaining the crimson light. Like Duncan's version of Ereshkigal, large black spikes with red outlines emerged from the ground.
The only difference was that the spikes were lined in front of Vincent like a vast wall. The points continued to grow taller than any of us. Vincent then turned the weapon's handle, creating an unlocking sound that triggered something.
"Fifth Gate: Irkhalla's Absolute Front!" shouted Vincent as the giant wall glowed brilliantly in crimson light.
I was shocked as my eyes scanned the overall aspects of the spell. That last line and hand gesture from Vincent had caused the wall's defense to increase thricefold! Meanwhile, a prominent circular symbol of black was forming at Mavislin's opened palm.
As Vania continued scanning, we found that it was a twisted version of Valokia's emblem. But with Vincent tanking most of the damage, I was confident I could push the attack through.
"The Galaxy has awakened the Lostbelts, and it is up to me to shout their names! Sing the song of praises for this is Humanity's future!" So I yelled, unwilling to lose to Mavislin.
"Heaven's Feel Alter..."
"Monody!" shouted the Valkyrie as she unleashed a tsunami's worth of arrows toward Vincent.
The Ode to tragedy... A poem or song that laments someone's passing. What a sad thing to name this spell. But I guess the Element does fit the title. A tragic song must be sung, for the new spell has begun.
The barrier seemed to work but wasn't enough to deflect the spell, which was evident because Mavislin was ranked above us. But combined with my Lostbelt, the results could be different.
I walked towards Vincent so I could be beside him and get ready to brace the attack with my spell. As I did, I noticed that I was leaving an icy trail. And that my hair was turning white. As the fence started to crack, I closed my eyes and allowed the cold to engulf my sword and body.
Hoisting the sword above my head, I felt like a freezer. But I ignored the cold and opened my eyes again, ready to launch the attack.
"First Lostbelt... Permafrost Empire!" I called out as I brought my sword down.
Not only did I create a massive wave of snow from the blade, but I'd also incidentally created a white fortress surrounding us. With the arena set to my advantage, there was no way I could get beaten by Mavislin's single spell.
The shatter of Vincent's spell caused my spell and Mavislin's to collide, creating a large explosion of black and white. While I felt everything slow down, I saw the exact figure from before flash by my eyes. The figure still had his back turned towards me, but I could see his whole body this time.
He was wearing red pants with black furry pelts by his waist. He didn't have a shirt and only had a blue shoulder vest covering half of his back. Was this my soulmate or something? Because I felt... Comforted to see his figure despite not knowing who he was to me.
As he turned around, I missed it as I blinked, and I was back to staring into an empty void of white.
