After Lin Xu died, she discovered that the world she was in was a novel. Her eldest son liked to imprison the female protagonist of the novel, engaging in sinister villainous acts with a dark room play. Her youngest son would unfailingly draw substitute's blood and snatch substitutes' kidneys for the female protagonist’s legal antagonist — his unrequited love. Her only daughter was the romantic fool forever revolving around the male protagonist of the novel. If children are not disciplined, the mother is to blame. After being reborn, Lin Xu felt she should step in and discipline her wayward children. However, before she could take action, her eldest son’s dark, handsome, and usually cold face blushed slightly as he asked in a low voice, “Can I touch my head?” The middle son snorted and turned his head, his tone petulant, “I... I don’t want to go home, but if you insist, I'll do it begrudgingly.” The youngest daughter rushed over, mercilessly pushing her brothers aside, “Mom, come and teach me how to solve this problem~” Latter, both sons fought over the bowl of noodles Lin Xu cooked. What was a novel’s female protagonist? Nothing compared to their mother. The daughter transformed herself, letting nothing from any novel’s male protagonist interfere with her studies! The family was blissfully happy. Latter, the revived, amnesiac husband suddenly appeared, cornering her against the wall, his eyes full of struggle, “Even if you're married, I still love you.” Lin Xu pretended to be serious, “Is that so, then what should we do?” He hugged her tightly, his voice muffled and pained, “Divorce him!” Lin Xu chuckled secretly, “I’ll divorce him right away.” Latter, after the husband regained his memory, he said through gritted teeth, “Over my dead body will we divorce!”
Lin Xu was in a car accident.
A large truck ran a red light and collided severely with her sedan, causing it to flip over.
Steel pipes from the truck fell and pierced directly through her body. Before the pain could spread through her, she lost consciousness.
Then countless images flooded her mind, and Lin Xu realized she was in a world from a novel. Both her sons were villains in the novel, and her daughter was just a minor character doomed for tragedy.
After she and her husband died, the three children were left to fend for themselves. With no one to guide them, the two boys grew worse and worse, one becoming a pervert vested in confining the novel's heroine and engaging in dark play, while the other turned into a law-abiding villain who would draw blood and take kidneys from substitutes for his treasured first love—the novel's female lead.
The only daughter, lacking love in her childhood, grew obsessed with love and spent her days orbiting around the novel's male lead, eventually becoming the dispensable character who plotted against the female lead.
Because of their opposition to the novel's protagonists, it wasn't long before the two villainous sons were captured and spent their lives in prison. The dispensable daughter was manipulated by the male lead, who took away the family business, and she ended her life in despair falling off a cliff.
"Be careful!"
Lin Xu sat up abruptly, taking in several deep breaths, her chest heaving dramatically.
The image of her daughter falling from the cliff lingered in her mind. Shaken, she patted her chest and suddenly discovered that the large hole made by the steel pipe during the accident was gone; in fact, all her injuries had disappeared.
Lin Xu was stunned. Before she could figure out what was happening, she heard a loud voice near her.
"Ji Tingyang, I don't like you, please let me go."
The man's crisp voice was filled with anger, "I'm telling you, that's impossible! Butler, take her back to her room!"
Lin Xu followed the voice into the room and saw a man throwing things onto the floor, with cups and dishes swept onto the ground, shattered into pieces.
She tentatively called out a name, "Ji Tingyang?"
Ji Tingyang turned around, his eyebrows furrowing unhappily, "Who are you, and what are you doing here?"
The familiar eyes, the face, made Lin Xu's heart tremble, "I am your mother."
"Say that again?!" Ji Tingyang's eyes were cold, and his clear voice held repressed fury.
Lin Xu was undeterred, answering back, "I said, I am your mother."
Ji Tingyang radiated an icy chill, his frosty eyes piercing her like knives, "You dare to joke about my mother, you're looking for death!"
His mother had died twenty years ago, and even if she were alive, she would be in her forties or fifties by now, but this woman looked to be only in her twenties at most.
"I'm not joking, I'm serious. You wet the bed when you were five, you loved Ultraman at six, and you were still fond of drinking milk at seven." Lin Xu rattled off Ji Tingyang's personal history as if it were her own treasure.
Ji Tingyang's forehead vein bulged, teeth gritted in anger, "You even had someone investigate me."
"Who needs to investigate? I've been telling you, I'm your mother." Lin Xu was also angry; why was this child so stubborn? He used to be so adorable and believed everything she said.
Lin Xu thought for a moment and said softly, "There's a red mole on your buttock, surely you must acknowledge that."
Ji Tingyang's face grew even colder. He stepped forward and grabbed her wrist tightly, causing her pain, "Who else is in this house with you? Who is it, tell me!"
"Why won't you listen to reason, you stubborn child? I told you I am Lin Xu, your mother! After the car accident, I woke up here, and I'm just as confused as you. I'm talking to you nicely, and you won't listen." Lin Xu became so frustrated that she started hitting him, swinging her hand and slapping his shoulder, scolding him as she did so.
The familiar tone when she was angry and the slap made Ji Tingyang pause, momentarily stunned, remembering how over twenty years ago when he had cut his mother's dress, she had slapped him in the same way when she was angry.
Could it really be his mother?
"If you still don't believe it, then let's do a paternity test." Lin Xu was too lazy to exchange any more secret signals with him and directly suggested the most effective method.
Ji Tingyang had initially planned to throw her out of the Ji family, but her face, similar to her mother's, and her actions and behaviors, made him hesitate for a moment.
In the end, he called a doctor to draw blood for a test, but the results would not be available until the next day.
"You..." Ji Tingyang glanced at Lin Xu and, for a moment, didn't know what to do with her.
Lin Xu didn't care about his discomfort and asked, "What about my younger brother and sister, why haven't I seen them?"
Ji Tingyang frowned, "You still want to pry into their whereabouts? I'm telling you, they..."
Before he could finish, he received another slap from Lin Xu.
Ji Tingyang felt anger rising from his heart, and he turned to glare fiercely at Lin Xu, a curse almost slipping out from his throat, but after seeing that familiar cheek, he swallowed it back down and replied reluctantly and unwillingly, "They don't often come home, they don't live here."
Once the paternity test results are out, if this woman is lying to him, he would make sure she regretted it.
Lin Xu's slender eyebrows furrowed, her expression carrying a hint of sadness not easily detectable, "Don't you get along well?"
Otherwise, why wouldn't three siblings live together.
Ji Tingyang paused, then remained silent.
Lin Xu wanted to ask more about their situation, but seeing Ji Tingyang's sour expression, she swallowed her doubts back down.
Forget it, I'll ask again next time.
"Is my old room still available, where am I going to sleep tonight?" Lin Xu looked around, the house hadn't changed much, largely keeping its original appearance.
"Sleep in the guest room," Ji Tingyang said coldly.
Lin Xu's lips parted, about to speak, but she met his eyes, which brooked no argument, "All right."
Ji Tingyang had not yet let his guard down around her, so not letting her sleep in the main bedroom was to be expected.
Lin Xu had been overwhelmed with information today, her head spinning. She told Ji Tingyang that she was going upstairs and selected a guest room to rest in as if familiar with the place.
She slept soundly.
Lin Xu slept until the next morning, and upon seeing the unfamiliar yet familiar surroundings, she realized that she had really been reborn.
It took her a while to come to terms with the fact, and as she opened the door to look for something to eat, she saw Ji Tingyang standing in front of her door.
He was holding an A4 paper, still foolishly looking at the content, his pupils filled with disbelief.
Seeing the paper, Lin Xu quickly realized, "Are the test results out?"
Ji Tingyang looked up, his expression a complex acknowledgment.
Seeing him like this, she didn't need to ask to know what the test results were.
Lin Xu pondered whether to give him a long-lost mother-son hug when the room at the end of the corridor suddenly echoed with the sound of things being thrown around.
The nanny came out of the room, flustered, and upon seeing Ji Tingyang in the hallway, she started with a shock before hesitantly coming over and saying, "Young Master, Lady Wen has thrown out all the breakfast."
Lin Xu's eyelid twitched, momentarily remembering the novel's female protagonist who was locked in a dark room in their house.
