A young man woke up in bed, his mind flooded with endless thoughts.

With scant memory, he wondered, "Is this the world of Pokémon? Is this the real Pallet Town?" After combing through his memories, he realized he had been reborn as Gary Oak.

In his previous life on Earth, he was a child raised in an orphanage, also known as Gary. He could hardly believe he had been reborn into this world. He loved watching Pokémon, and before his rebirth, he was eating fried chicken, drinking soda, and watching the latest season of his favorite show. Then he fell asleep, and upon waking, he found himself reborn.

Moreover, he had been reborn as a person who could rival Ash Ketchum in his early days. Not only was Gary very handsome, but he had also garnered a lot of fans. As the grandson of Professor Oak, a renowned researcher in the Pokémon world, he had lived a very comfortable life.

Gary opened the curtains in his room, letting the soft sunlight stream in. Looking out at Pallet Town, his initial shock at being reborn transformed into immense excitement for this world. After all, he was a Pokémon fan and quite familiar with the plot of this world, knowing it inside and out.

It was time to gather Pokémon and embark on an adventure. In the Pokémon world, children as young as ten set out on adventures to catch more Pokémon, and today, a few other kids around the same age were starting their journeys, including Ash. But Ash was probably still asleep.

Gary chuckled, quickly dressed, and followed his memories to Professor Oak's lab to receive his first Pokémon. According to the original plot, the original Gary would choose Squirtle, which would later evolve into Blastoise and match up against Ash's Charizard quite well.

Just then, Gary heard a mechanical sound.

"Ding! Congratulations to the host for binding to the God-level selection system."

"Ding! It has been detected that the host has a strong affinity with dragon-type Pokémon and can control them very well... The host is asked to make the following selections."

"Choice 1: When receiving your starter Pokémon, choose a dragon-type Pokémon, Charmander. You'll receive the skill card 'Shadow Clone' (usable only by Pokémon captured by the host)."

"Choice 2: Forgo receiving a starter Pokémon and embark on your journey directly. You can obtain Deino."

Gary was stunned by the appearance of the system. Was this his golden ticket? It seemed like those online novels weren't all lies. After rebirth, the system came as a standard perk, and he didn't expect to get one too.

In his shock, Gary reviewed the system's task content and rewards.

"Am I more compatible with dragon-type Pokémon? Should I focus on capturing all dragon-types?"

"But there's no denying it, dragon-type Pokémon are very powerful. None of them are weak, whether it's Dragonite, Gyarados, or Salamence... they're all strong!"

After contemplating for a while, Gary focused on the system's task selection.

The first option was to get Charmander and a skill card—Shadow Clone, which meant Charmander could master a useful skill without much training.

But the second option, Deino, got Gary extremely excited! When it evolves, it becomes Hydreigon, a very powerful Pokémon with high attack power and rarity that surpasses even Charizard.

"System, I choose the second option," Gary said decisively.

After making his choice, a brand new Poké Ball appeared before Gary. He picked it up and opened it, revealing a young sauropod-like dinosaur. The little guy had a blue body, black fur covering its eyes, a small tail, and a pointed tuft of hair on its head. As it emerged, it started bumping around and biting nearby objects, looking quite fierce.

But when it saw Gary, it became gentle, wagging its short tail.

Seeing this, Gary laughed heartily. He then took his new companion and headed to Professor Oak's lab. That day, the town was particularly lively, as two other teenagers had already received their starter Pokémon and set off. Many residents came out to see them off.

When Gary arrived, the people around him greeted him warmly. However, upon seeing Deino, many townsfolk remarked on its fierce and untamed nature.

Inside the lab, Gary approached Professor Oak. Seeing his grandfather, Gary felt a mix of emotions. He didn't know what to say, having been an orphan on Earth and unfamiliar with familial bonds. Now, he suddenly had a grandfather, and it felt strange.

"Gary, you're here! Charmander and Bulbasaur have already been chosen. Only Squirtle is left. Take it and start your journey. You're a young man now, and you need to learn to take care of yourself. Call your grandfather often," Professor Oak said affectionately.

But as he spoke, Deino stepped forward, as if to protect Gary.

"Um... Grandpa, I already have my first Pokémon. I caught a Deino, so I don't need a starter Pokémon. I came here to get a Pokédex and some empty Poké Balls. I'm ready to set off."

"A Deino? That's a rare catch. You're quite lucky, but it's a challenging Pokémon to raise," Professor Oak remarked, petting Deino's head, which surprisingly calmed the fierce Pokémon.

"Grandpa, I want to become the most powerful trainer. Raising a Deino shouldn't be difficult for me. I should challenge myself," Gary said confidently.

Hearing this, Professor Oak smiled, handing Gary the Poké Balls and the Pokédex he had prepared. He also gave Gary a bunch of supplies like Pokémon food, camping gear, and even a phone.

"Alright, go on your adventure! Remember, you promised to become the most powerful trainer. Once, your father said the same, but unfortunately, he couldn't return. If you become stronger, maybe you can meet him someday. I'm too old for that now. Gary, I'm looking forward to your success."

Professor Oak's words revealed something about Gary's father, who was absent in the original series. Gary wondered about his father's whereabouts but decided not to press further.

With a determined heart, Gary left the lab and headed towards Viridian City. The path led through a small forest between Pallet Town and Viridian City, which would take a few days to cross on foot. But it was just the right amount of time to catch some weaker Pokémon for training.
