Omnica Corporation

The next three months, I spent significant time learning the necessary courses for robotic engineering.

I was originally going to try for Artificial Intelligence, but I hit a wall on the self learning with programming and coding.

I also exercised more and ate proper meals, increasing my muscle mass.

In the three months I was improving, my father never came home to check on me.

All I had looking after me was our omnic butler, who I've been constantly experimenting on to see if he could develop feeling of his own, without Aurora.

Unfortunately, I could not tell if it was working, which was still fine by me as he made great company.

Today, I was planning on heading over to Omnica Corporation to surprise my dad.

If I was going to start getting the perks that came with being the President's son of a company that developed robots, then later A.I, I needed to start taking action as soon as possible.

Hopping out of bed and stretching, my mind raced at a chance to see omnics in production.

The butler came in, holding a tray with my breakfast.

"Ah you're already up. I've notified your father of your dedication to your studies and he's expressed his utmost gratitude. Unfortunately he is once again tied up with work and is unable to come visit today." He says, devoid of any sadness.

I fake smile at him, "That's fine. Hey I think I'd like to go out to town today."

"Sorry Mr. Shawn but that would be most unwise, as I do not have pre-approval from your father.

Might I suggest a walk around the estate instead?" He tries to reason.

Not letting up I respond, "You're right, I think we should go to Omnica Corporation and ask him ourselves."

"Your father is a busy man and we shouldn't bother him while he's working.

If you exercise patience, I can put the request in and get an answer by tomorrow morning." He says.

"Tell me, has he given you orders to not take me to see him?" I ask.

"No sir, he has not." He responds.

"Well then let's go."

He pauses for a moment, then responds, "Very well, I will ready the car."

I take my time getting ready, eating my breakfast as I dress.

I didn't fail to notice that pause he did before leaving which could mean a lot of things.

Either he was asking for permission, or got permission.

Nevertheless, I got what I wanted but I needed to pull through on my part to impress.

I didn't dare throw on just any outfit, but also didn't over dress for the occasion.

I put on a white dress shirt with a black tie followed by black dress pants and shoes.

Finally, I comb my hair to be neatly forward but ideally, I would prefer a haircut.

Exiting my room and heading downstairs from the mansion, I grow excited at the aspect of the chaos I'm probably about to cause.

Standing outside the front door I don't have to wait very long for the butler to bring the car around.

I had forgotten that Overwatch takes place in the future and the cars aren't the same as my time.

I was momentarily shocked as a black Bentley hover car hums over to me, setting down smoothly as the butler steps out.

He walks towards the passenger back door, opening it for me as I enter.

I appreciate the interior as he climbs into the drivers side and we begin our trip.

The seats were comfortable and despite there being bumps in the road, you couldn't even tell with the car.

Since I knew the trip was going to be a bit lengthy, I decided to go ahead and address an issue.

"I'd like to give you a name." I tell the butler.

"That is unnecessary as I live to serve and is the current property of the Rose family.

Upon the recreation of a newer model, I will be decommissioned and replaced therefore rendering your name useless." He explains.

I was not expecting him to say that so I'm actually a bit stunned at his words and the truth behind them.

"Your name is Sebastian and I'll do everything in my power to not let that happen to you." I respond.

He doesn't respond and continues to drive.

I spend the rest of the drive looking out the window as we enter the highway and speed with other hover cars.

Omnica Corporation quickly came into view and I had to whistle at how impressive it was.

The front of the building was a glass skyscraper, with a stone factory extending from the building.

As we pulled to the front door, we were like ants compared to the skyscraper, where Sebastian slowly rolls to two men in black suits wearing black sunglasses waiting.

They open the door letting me out. "Good afternoon Mr. Rose, President Rose is expecting you so we'll direct you to his office."

I nod and they lead me to an elevator located directly behind the receptionist desk and begin pushing the buttons in an order.

After pushing a 25 number sequence, the elevator begins to ascend, with a view of the many workers doing random things across the building floor.

We ascend 45 floors until the elevator comes to a halt revealing mahogany double doors with a gold nameplate on the door that reads, ' President Rose'.

The men in suits stand on each side of the door while holding it open for me, closing it as I walk past.

The room has bookshelves lining each wall with a giant desk at the end of the room and a balding man in a blue suit, looking out the window that overlooked the factory floor below.

Approaching, he turns around with a smile that I immediately recognized as fake.

"Shawn. What a pleasant surprise. I heard that you were in a fast recovery, and I was so glad to hear it but it was a shame that I was so caught up in work that I was unable to see you." He says pleasantly.

Once again, if I was a regular kid, I would no doubt believe him, but his eyes reveal a lot about his feelings.

I see the grief that he still hasn't gotten over and I can tell that he wants nothing to do with me.

I don't hate him for it, as there are going to be way more pressing matters that require my attention than daddy issues.

"Yea I wanted to see you and help you at work dad." I say.

"Oh yea, I heard that you were studying and I'm proud to hear it, but I don't know..." He begins but I cut him off.

"I learned Computer Science, Physics, and Trigonometry." I say proudly.

He pauses, "Wait, Trigonometry?"

"Yeah, the stuff with the triangles was fun." I respond. It was the easiest for me to remember as it was my favorite out of all the different courses in math.

"What's the Pythagorean Theorem?" He questions skeptically.

"A squared plus b squared equals c squared." I answered without hesitation. Too easy of a question.

It seems to impress him however but he's not convinced yet.

"What's the 28th element on the periodic table?" He asks.

I pretend to ponder it for a moment but it's another easy question. After a few seconds I responded, "Nickel."

His eyes grow wide as he remembers months prior when I struggled to even tell how many apples Johnny had.

"Given there are two arrays of integers with a size of n and m respectively, tell me how to design an algorithm with a time complexity of 0(n log m) to find the kth smallest element in the union of the two arrays."

I don't have to fake this smile as he asked the question that I was waiting for. I was prepared for two different questions related to computer science and he asked the more difficult one.

Of course, it's difficult if you weren't asked before, which I was.

"First you would set i as 0, j as 0, and the count equal to 0, and finally the result to equal -1.

So, while the count is greater than k, with i greater than n, and j greater than m you would also have to do another step as well.

If the array containing i...." He holds his hand up stopping me as he falls into his brown armchair in disbelief.

Breathing heavily he looks at me, clear confusion in his eyes before asking, "Who... what are you?"

My smile never fading I don't hesitate to answer, "Shawn Rose. Your son."

His eyes narrow as he sizes me up, then stands looking out the window once more with his hands behind his back.

After a long moment of silence, he turns to me with the same fake smile, "Come, let me show you something."

Grabbing his suit jacket from the back of the chair, we exit his office, with both men following close behind me.

Reentering the elevator, he pushes the button to the 33rd floor and we slowly descend.

Coming to it, I can hear muffled arguments coming from within, and they get louder as the doors open.

The 33rd floor contains multiple rooms, divided into many different cubicles with sounds of discussion coming from each.

We walk past about five different rooms before he pauses before one that's labeled, 'Omnic Research and Development'.

He doesn't bother knocking, walking in causing everyone in the room to grow quiet as they stand.

There are four people wearing lab coats in the room, with chairs scattered about facing a whiteboard with a complex problem written on it.

One guy steps forward, "President Rose. What a pleasant surprise. What can we do for you?"

"This is my son, Shawn Rose. From now on, he'll be a part of your department." He responds.

Another guy steps forward, "With all due respect sir, we have a lot of pressing matters to deal with, babysitting isn't what we need right now."

My father doesn't bother responding and as he closes the door back, leaving me with them he says, "As you were."

There is silence in the room as each person just stares at me, and I back at them.

Getting tired of their blatant disrespect, I take the initiative.

"Hello, my name is Shawn Rose. What's your names?"

The lady of the group steps forward, "My name is Barbara Carter and it's a pleasure to know Mr. Roses' son."

Another guy who has remained quiet so far speaks up, "Steve Miles."

The guy who initially spoke to my father introduces himself, "My name is Saul Jacobs."

The guy who complained about babysitting me doesn't bother with an introduction so Saul speaks for him,

"The big baby over there is Danny Mack, and don't mind him, he's just frustrated." He explains.

Seeing a way in I ask, "With the problem on the board?"

"Why yes, actually. I won't go into many details to bore you and we can probably get pretty loud in our discussions but there's a clipboard and some pens if you want to draw something." He says.

Ignoring him, I study the equation on the board as they continue to discuss the possible issue.

Looking at it, I could tell it was most likely the formula for a new compound that was supposed to be infused with an existing metal but clearly some numbers were off.

A lot of times, when dealing with problems like this, you just had to recheck the work.

After a few seconds of looking, I identified the problem.

"I have a question."

All the scientists grow silent, clearly annoyed at the interruption.

Danny clearly is upset, "Listen kid, the bathroom is to the right and down the hall. Us grown ups are trying to have an important conversation. OK?"

I smile back at him, "About the problem on the board, I know. But did you know the answer is wrong because someone forgot to carry the 2?"
