The entire amphitheatre was rowdy. The tumultuous audience’s voice seemed to echo in the rounded space as they awaited the start of the preliminary rounds.
The noise from the crowd was silence with a single hand gesture.
The empire’s highest authority – their great, benevolent ruler, with a raised paw, quelled the uproar. All eyes were intensely focused on him, awaiting his words.
“Let us begin, shall we?”, he declared loudly, his singular voice bouncing off the walls of the amphitheatre.
Following this bold declaration was an eruption from the crowd.
I, on the other hand, couldn’t understand why the people were so excited. That wasn’t a speech. Heck, it was barely an address. The emperor didn’t try in any shape or form. Was I misunderstanding something?
As if she could read my thoughts, Kara came next to me and whispered in my ears:
“It’s merely a preliminary round. The emperor only gives a speech when the actual tournament begins.”
