Chapter 1Prologue

It's just an idea that's been in my head for a long time. I won't say for sure that I'll write the next chapters.

______________________________________________________________________________________

In the grand scheme of the universe, humans are insignificant.

The best definition for humanity would be: Primates who can't cope with the fact that their existence in the universe is comparable to grains of sand at the bottom of the sea.

Would a human be able to do something that wouldn't just shake up their small, useless world?

Those at the top didn't think so. Even those who were minimally more capable than humans saw them only as a means of entertainment, or even food.

In this world, where all kinds of supernatural creatures exist, humans are just ants living peacefully in their anthills.

That is, until one of these creatures decides that these ants are perfect for trampling.

All humans know this and live in fear that at any moment an evil creature will decide to exterminate them.

~Humanity's oldest and strongest emotion is fear, and the oldest and strongest of all fears is the fear of the unknown.

In this world, living in ignorance like a sheep waiting to be slaughtered is what many would prefer.

But that doesn't apply to everyone.

Because some of these people want their freedom back, the freedom to walk the streets without the fear of being killed and forgotten, without the fear of not seeing their children after they leave for school, without the fear of having everything taken away from them in the blink of an eye.

Freedom, so that they are no longer afraid to live.

While some of these people who crave freedom so much are waiting for it to suddenly be given back to them, a small proportion are fighting for it to happen.

A small proportion who don't want their destinies to be in the hands of supernatural creatures as powerful as gods.

A small proportion who want to shape their own path and die on their own terms.

A small group known as the "Hunters".

In this world filled with anguish and fear, they are responsible for bringing hope...

Or at least that's how it should be.

"Damn!!! They've already taken all the fairy hunts! What the fuck!!!"

"Please stay calm."

Inside what could only be described as a huge luxurious hall, a man of above average height and defined muscles looked irritated as he stared at a pile of papers on the reception desk.

"Damn it, how the hell am I going to pay this week's rent?" The angry man rubbed his forehead as he seemed to try to calm his irritation, a gesture appreciated by the receptionist.

"Mr. Mael, you can also take the goblin hunting missions."

"I refuse. Those grotesque little things are disgusting. Last time, I had my smelly clothes on for two whole days."

The man, now identified as Mael, immediately refused the offer while sighing in frustration.

"All right, I'm going home. Hopefully, whoever took up fairy hunting won't be able to eliminate them completely."

Turning around, he began to walk away, without even greeting the receptionist, which drew a sigh from her.

With her eyes fixed on the man's back as he walked further and further away, the receptionist couldn't help thinking about him.

Mael was undoubtedly a mysterious man.

It was about three weeks ago that he had registered as a hunter. That in itself wasn't unusual, after all, people registered every day.

But Mael was a different case.

The receptionist had years of experience, and in her line of work, it was normal for her to start paying attention to people.

This made her learn to read the people she talked to a little.

And the first time Mael had come to this place, she realized it immediately.

He didn't know anything.

This wasn't so unusual, after all, the "hunter" business was relatively new, recently turning 50. Many people still didn't know exactly how the job worked.

But that wasn't the case with Mael.

Because he knew absolutely nothing.

Monsters, gods, ghosts, and even what the hunters did in a superficial way.

His knowledge of these subjects was as great as that of a primary school child.

He tried to pretend to know a few things, but the receptionist easily detected this.

Then, after wasting a few minutes explaining, he suddenly became interested in the hunter's job.

The receptionist tried to explain that it was a dangerous line of work and required skills, but Mael didn't care and asked to sign up without hesitation.

Unfortunately, the receptionist couldn't do much more than grant his wish. Becoming a hunter was simple, and didn't require money or an exam. Just the courage to risk their lives.

The government needed people willing to face the supernatural creatures, so it demanded almost nothing for the integration of civilians.

But even so, few people wanted to become hunters, after all, it was a job that paid according to the missions completed, or "hunted", as the hunters referred to it.

Most of them paid a small amount of money, while the most dangerous ones could run into millions of dollars.

Obviously, you could count on your fingers the people capable of completing this kind of mission.

And Mael was definitely not one of those people.

Immediately after becoming a hunter, he quickly moved to the hunting board and picked up the one that looked the simplest.

The receptionist was very surprised to see him return the next day with a bag full of fairy wings.

From then on, Mael would show up at the hunters' headquarters again and again to collect their money or start a new hunt, all the time focusing completely on hunting fairies, who, although not deadly, were quite dangerous when they gathered in swarms.

Why was he so obsessed with these hunts?

If other hunters had to give their opinion, they'd say it's because of its reasonable pay and low risk.

A fairy hunt usually paid 200 dollars, and took all day to complete. In a good week, it's possible to complete 3 hunts.

As far as danger is concerned, the fairies, better known as "tooth fairies", are not really an immediate danger, since they take a long time to cause death. They have the peculiar ability to cause a target to produce teeth all over their body without limit, until the individual is no longer able to endure the painful process and dies, or eventually takes their own life.

The process takes about a week, and the fairies don't offer any kind of danger beyond that, but even so, a swarm of these creatures can cause a small town to collapse in a matter of days.

That's why it's necessary to control the population of these little creatures.

But after a while, the number of fairies decreased significantly due to the hunters, which led to a decrease in hunting.

Great news for the town, and bad news for Mael, whose only source of income was hunting.

In fact, there were countless different hunts, but most of them carried a considerably higher risk.

But what exactly did that imply? That Mael was fearful? Lazy? Weak?

Well...

Maybe one of them.

Mael believed in self-preservation. In a world like the one he lived in, just leaving the house already left him at the mercy of all kinds of creatures, so why start a dangerous hunt just to risk himself even more?

For him, that was idiotic, even more so for a normal human like him...

Well, he wasn't that normal, but he still wasn't superhuman.

He was just a human with a peculiar ability.

____Mael Pov____

When I came into this world, I didn't know what to expect.

And I'm not talking about being born or anything like that. I'm talking about something more supernatural, something more divine, something like transmigration!

Yes, I'm a transmigrator, reincarnator, or any other term I don't care to remember.

I don't remember how I ended up in this world, and until a while ago, I didn't even know what world I had been thrown into against my will.

The first pieces of information I collected were my name, my appearance, my age and where I lived.

Mael, 21 years old. Unemployed and living on rent in the city of Lansing, Michigan. Surprisingly athletic body and handsome face, with beautiful black hair.

A striking difference from my previous appearance... I was prettier.

The next information I gathered was about this world. Since the person I had suddenly taken over seemed to be so broken that he didn't even have a cell phone, I decided to try my luck in a library.

It was pure coincidence that I ended up in the "hunters' lounge".

And I ended up finding out about the world I was destined to live in from that moment on.

When I transmigrated, I wasn't bothered in the slightest. It seemed normal to me, so much so that I didn't even think twice about looking for as much information as possible around me.

But when I found out about all the bizarre things that exist in this world, I froze.

Because I realized that I was in a bloody mix of worlds.

Giants who punish unworthy humans, and giants who "collect" humans for "heaven". Powerful beings comparable to gods, anomalous creatures held captive by a powerful organization, monsters who wished only to torment humanity.

I don't think I need to explain the reason for my fear, do I?
