Dungeon of the Vengeful (5)

Enzo brought his katana up and parried away the first skeletons attack, but didn't have time to follow up with a counterattack as two more cutlasses were flying towards his head from different directions.

He ducked down, causing both weapons to fly past his head, then quickly stabbed his katana towards the gem on one of the skeletons who attacked him.

Enzo quickly pulled his weapon back, then fell to his back and performed a backwards roll.

A cutlass stabbed into the earth where he had been standing just a second ago and the other three stabbed into the empty air.

Enzo sheathed his katana once he was standing again and pulled out his daggers.

He quickly understood that when facing multiple opponents speed or range is key. He wouldn't be able to use his bow so range was out of the question. The next best option was to use his daggers which were much faster than using his sword.

Enzo may not have realized, but his high intelligence played a huge part in his ability to figure out things like this so quickly.

Other Monster Slayers were having issues with fighting because they couldn't get their weapon choice right for the needed situations.

Enzo however, would always choose the correct weapon for the situation he was in, and even figured out different weapons that were not currently in his possession that may have helped him out more. For example, he believed in this situation it might have been more advantageous to have a spear on hand to fight against the skeletons with. The spear would offer him the range he needed to avoid most of the attacks, the durability he needed to parry some attacks, and the power he needed to crush the weak spots of the skeletons in one go.

After readying his daggers Enzo waited for the skeletons to once again get close enough.

Luckily, it seemed like some were faster than others, so Enzo was able to face one opponent at a time now.

The nearest skeleton stabbed its cutlass towards Enzo's heart once it got within a few feet of him.

Enzo performed a beautiful spin to avoid the cutlass and stabbed his dagger through the gem on its chest once his spin was completed.

'Two down, three more to go.' He thought to himself as the skeleton returned to a pile of bones.

Two of the remaining three crossed swords with Enzo next, with the last one close behind them.

The skeleton on the left stabbed its sword towards Enzo's chest while the skeleton on the right performed a low sweep towards his legs with its cutlass.

'Crap!'

Enzo quickly realized there was no good way out of this situation. No matter what he did he was going to take damage, so in a split second he decided on the best course of action.

Enzo jumped into the air and leaned his body to the right side as fast as he could. He avoided the skeleton who aimed for his legs, but the skeleton who stabbed at his chest area could not be avoided.

The sword pierced him right through his arm where his elbow was.

"Agh!" Enzo cried out in pain.

It may have hurt like hell and maybe even diminished his chances of winning the fight, but it was much better than the alternative. If he hadn't avoided the leg sweep he wouldn't have been able to continue fighting, but with just his right arm being usable he could still fight.

Enzo involuntarily dropped the dagger in his left hand. He quickly ignored the pain and stabbed out with his right hand into the chest of the skeleton on the right side.

The skeleton was still recovering from its missed shot at Enzo's legs so it never saw the attack coming.

The skeleton crumpled into a pile of bones and shattered gems, but the last skeleton warrior quickly took its place.

Enzo now had to defeat two skeletons with just one hand, and that's not to mention the fact that both skeletons were a whole level higher than him. He really should have struggled more to even get to this point, so it was a testament to his skill and intelligence that he made it this far with only one injury.

The skeletons then attempted to try the same strategy, seeing as it worked in their favor last time. However, Enzo wasn't going to just allow them to do the same thing to him again.

This time he was ready. He used his dagger to quickly block and parry away the sword of the skeleton who aimed for his heart before it could even get halfway towards him. The cutlass was thrown away and stabbed into the ground instead.

The cutlass that was aimed for his legs clashed into the one that was now stabbed into the dirt and was stopped in its tracks.

Enzo quickly pierced his dagger through the weak spot of the skeleton who still held onto its weapon that was embedded into the dirt.

He then did the same to the skeleton that was low to the ground and trying to recover from having its sword blocked.

"Sigh."

Enzo plopped to the ground after confirming that was the last of the skeleton warriors and held his arm in pain.

There was now a new hole in his shirt that joined the rest of them, making him look even more poor and dirty than he already did.

Enzo applied pressure to the wound for 15 or so minutes when it miraculously stopped bleeding.

Enzo looked at his health bar which was slowly going back up and sighed in relief. Hopefully this meant he would be able to use his arm again soon. If not, he would have to forfeit his life in this dungeon.
