The story is set in the future where the world is ruled by scientists, this allowed humanity to create technologies that they never imagine would exist. The boy named Argus Andromeda was born from a wealthy family: one of the four great families of scientists that rules Japan. Then Argus discovered something that shouldn't exist, he met a mysterious girl who gave him the power to see the future of the people he touches with his hands physically. One foresight was a great calamity that will bring disaster to him and the people he cared about, so it's up to him to fix everything with his newly gained ability.
Science...
Faith...
Those two things have been enemies ever since humans started to develop intelligence.
Science is experiments created and tested by humans who're on the side of science, while faith is a natural belief and respect for their one and only God or Goddess.
Throughout the time when humans created both faith and science, they have been in constant conflict with one another.
The two sides have been fighting either physically or verbally, just so they could protect what they believe in and show that their belief is the right one.
Humans shower in the blood of others just to show they're right; humans are sweating their own blood just to show what they believe is right.
Science... Faith... Which one of you is truly correct? Is the world created by a massive explosion through nothing but sheer coincidence or is it designed by an omnipotent being who people worship?
My argument in science is how was the Big Bang even possible? If it's true then what made it possible? It just can't be anything but coincidence.
While my argument in faith is that how can't an omnipotent, omniscient, and loving God can't solve his problem with just a snap of a finger if those three words are what describes him? If he/she is real then where's the loving part now? He/she just cannot exist if those three words are what describe him/her and can't do a thing that represents them.
Everything in this world, everything that I can see with my very own eyes has its own origin. Whether it'll be my desk, papers, words, or my teacher right in front of me, they have a root of their own.
A root of their existence...
Right now I'm in my classroom, sitting and listening properly like the good student that I am to my history teacher as he tells us how the faith of ancient religions works.
"To put it simply, some religions such as Christianity and Islam follow their God, religions like Buddhism and Confucianism follow the knowledge of their human leader, while religions such as Shinto and Hinduism follow not only one God or Goddess but a whole pantheon of Deities." That's what my history teacher told us as he writes the name of the Gods/Leaders on the blackboard.
Yahweh, Brahma, Amaterasu, Buddha, Confucious, and many more.
Their religion has similar roots, all of them are created by humans.
"Okay, Argus can you read the concept of faith on page 156?"
"Sure teacher."
Like what my history teacher said, my name is Argus, Argus Andromeda. My name is taken from a Greek Figure who created the Argo named Argus and my last name is derived both from the name of another Greek figure and the name of the nearest galaxy.
I'm 12 years of age, have black hair, blue eyes, pretty tall than an average kid of my age, not to brag but I'm really handsome and also the top student in my entire school.
That goes to show how awesome I am.
I flipped my history book the page 156 and stood up. "The main purpose of faith is so that humanity can have unity, by having the same understanding of the origin of the world everyone would be at peace and won't start a conflict."
"Thank you Argu-"
Ring! The bell rang at the same time my history teacher was about to finish what he was supposed to say. "Okay, class is dismissed for today, also remember to study about ancient religions of the world because we would be having a pop quiz tomorrow."
"Sure teacher!" Everyone said in a tired voice at the same time.
"Almost forgot, Argus and Marine, can you two come here?"
I stopped preparing my backpack and headed in front of the teacher, everyone behind me was leaving the classroom like there was no tomorrow except for one.
A girl with bright aqua colored hair that was hidden under her hood along with her face, both her hands were also hidden inside her hoodie and she was slowly walking toward us with her face looking at the ground.
Her name was Marine Arona, she's 3 inches shorter than me and is also one of the top students of this school.
"Let me get this straight, I've heard from fellow teachers and some students that you, Andromeda Argus, have been bullying Arona Marine... Is that true Marine?"
Marine slowly looked at me with fear in her eyes, her mouth was shaking, and was leaning to say the truth.
I looked into her eyes without moving an inch so that the teacher wouldn't notice, the moment I stared at her she froze because she realized what I said in my eyes. 'You're dead if you tell the truth.'
"So Marine? Is it true that Argus has been bullying you?"
"Y-, y-, of course- of course not! In fact, Mr. Andromeda has been helping me with some of my problems..."
"Come on professor, you seriously believe in some rumors?" I leaned against Marine and pulled her closer to me. "Since Marine and I are both top students in this school, it's only natural for us to get along, right Marine?"
"Right, of course!" She replied in a panic.
"I see... I'm glad that the two of you are getting along really well." Our history teacher replied fully convinced of our explanation. "Okay, you two are dismissed now."
"Thanks, teacher." "Thanks, teacher..." Both of us replied at the same time.
We left the classroom together, I gripped her arm and pulled her to where I was going.
She didn't fight back when I forcedly pull her arm, but instead, she was cowering in fear knowing what was about to happen.
I pulled her to our locker room and pushed her to the locked locker. "Very good, looks like your smart enough to not tell him the truth."
Marine just looked down on the floor; still terrified at me.
"You better not tell anyone else 'kay? Because if you did, you're gonna suffer what it means to experience a fate worse than death, hear me?"
"Of course..." She replied softly.
"Good." I took my shoes from my locker and put them on, after putting them on I left Marine in the locker room who was still frozen from fear.
I am called many names by people around me: a delinquent, a bully, a predator, or a villain.
That was because I'm infamous around the city, everyone around me hated my guts because of how much a troublemaker I am.
Despite my high intelligence that even scientists recognize, my personality is outright the most terrible thing you could imagine, which is why I've been called those many names.
Did it bother me that they're calling me that? No. After all, I was stupid enough to not know how to read the mind of everyone around me.
I was nothing but a dense child who was filled with immense vainglory, because of this everyone hated me and I became ignorant of my actions.
But even if I'm giving hell to everyone around me, they can't do a thing because my family is one of the leading scientists that govern Japan.
Today is the year 2600, there are no presidents or monarchs that lead the world right now, instead, the leading figure of a country is their greatest scientist today.
This means everything in this world is ruled by science, unlike before in the year the early 2000s when faith is found throughout the world, To this day no religion can be found practiced here.
The practice of religion isn't illegal, but as time passed people found faith unnecessary and a wall to stop them from developing a utopia where everything in the world is scientifically advanced.
Though there's no such thing as flying cars, portals to travel to other countries, and time machines yet. In the end, this age of science is unlike before.
If in the past some sicknesses such as cancer, AIDS, viruses from pandemics, and many more incurable diseases are deadly, in this day and age it's nothing but like a common cold to us right now.
Some almost impossible things to do like going to the deepest ocean, traveling to planets like Neptune, a settlement on Mars, reviving extinct animals, and accurate predictions of upcoming natural disasters have become possible because of science.
With the hard work, people have put through on the current technology without complaint from the public, scientists have made the impossibility turned to a possibility.
Though some things like finding life on other planets and AI that can rule a whole country haven't been made yet, scientists are still doing their best to find ways to move forward to them.
The greatest part worldwide problems like climate change, pollution, and poverty have been solved with the advancement of science.
Some technology was created to prevent the rise of greenhouse gases, a chemical was created to dispose of trash including metal and plastic safely without harming the world, and with the rise of technology, the countries started helping one another to make better ones which is why resources and war aren't a problem anymore.
This is why this world is now what every people would call a utopia.
"I'm home."
"Good job on school today, Sir." My personal butler bowed right in front of me.
His name was Lev Kamijou, he has been a butler in my family for 50 years, and right now he's my personal butler.
"Thanks, Lev, is anybody there?"
"Your father and elder sister are busy back at the lab, your mother is currently attending a meeting with her business partners, and your elder brother is with his friends at a party.
"I see..." I replied while looking down on the floor in disappointment.
It has been like this for a long time ago, I don't even remember when it started but it feels like it was during the day I was born.
"Dinners have already been prepared, so go eat Sir Argus– I'll take your backpack back to your room and ready your bath."
"Thanks, Lev..." I handed him my bag and went to the dining room immediately.
My food was already placed on my site; it was clearly newly cooked, even if I am far away from the table I can smell the wonderful aroma coming out of it.
I sat down on my chair and looked at my food– it was a chicken curry with a lot of potatoes and carrots in it; reason because I decided to take on a diet and eat more healthy food, so the chicken they used is the breast.
"Time to eat..." I took a small serving from my fork and grab a bite. "It's delicious..."
Yes... It was delicious... Really delicious, but at the same time, it feels tasteless, like something is missing that I don't even know.
I looked in front of me to take a look at what was missing and I immediately found it.
One... Two... Three... Four... Plus the one I'm sitting on equals five... Five seats but only one is filled.
This has been my situation ever since I was still young, the only time these five chairs were filled is when there's a chance that everyone has no work.
But even so... Even if the chairs are complete it still feels the same.
No one talks to each other if we're eating together, not a single word is muttered except if my father is asking how the work of my mother and older sister is.
While at the same time he verbally abuses my older brother for not finding a job yet.
And the only time he mentions my existence is when my teacher complains about my behavior in class.
Which is why... I'm doing all those horrible things in school, just so he could acknowledge my existence.
"Sir Argus, your bath is ready."
Splash! Splash! Splash!
I slapped the water on the bathtub to release my anger a little bit.
The way the water splashes around everywhere like an explosion is like what I wanted to happen in this wretched country.
Splash! Splash! Splash!
My hands continued splashing the water, every slap I do it keeps getting faster.
Splash!Splash!Splash!
"Just die! Just die! Just die!"
Splash!!Splash!!Splash!!
"I hope this city burns! I hope that someone would throw a nuke in this city!"
Splash!!!Splash!!!Splash!!!
"D*mmit! D*mmit! D*mmit!" Splash! My hand stopped the moment a single tear appeared in my eye.
For a long time now, without my knowledge, this scene that I did in the bathroom is already like a hobby for me.
Day by day I keep doing it nonstop, I tried my best to stop but my body and mind are what's stopping me from doing so.
My tears and splashes are already uncountable and the amount of stress and sorrow I'm feeling every day is already like a part of my identity.
Even if I act tough in front of other people, in the end, that was all a mask that I'm hiding onto, nothing but a massive facade that everyone believes in; without knowing that the boy hiding in that mask is nothing but a weak coward.
That's who I am– Argus Andromeda, the youngest child of the Andromeda Clan, one of the four families of scientists that leads Japan.
