From the moment Jakob walked into the Duke's Tower, he knew there was much to be done if he ended up being the butler the duke chose.
Rather than being greeted and waited on by staff, the duke himself was there first. In a dire situation, it should be guards and then staff interacting with people first. There were often threats to nobles' lives especially if they had a great deal of responsibility like Duke Mattson did.
As Henry walked him into his study, Jakob resisted tsk-ing at the casual manner in which the castle was run. It wouldn't take him long to whip everyone into shape. Perhaps it was that Henry was simply too lenient. This is why he was glad the man was looking for help so that he would at least retain a prestigious appearance in the face of other nobles.
