The commander held his bowl and never brought a bite to his lips while he recounted a memory that seemed so vivid it was impossible to tell if it was decades before or only days before.
"One of the aquifers collapsed after a particularly volatile attack from the mages and trapped many knights along with many villagers in a dark tunnel underground," the commander's voice grew colder as he spoke. "Rather than save the people trapped, they decided to take the small magical orbs of the salamanders first. They didn't care who lived or died as long as they got their promised payment first."
The commander took another sip of the stew in his bowl. Henry did the same. He felt he could only eat if the other man did as well.
